Seattle is beautful. Is Pike\'s still there. When I was last there it still had and old look. I hope they havent \'modernised\' it. Do they still throw fish.

Finally I remebered to bring my camera into town,. These pics were taken yesterday, and as you can see, spring has arrived even to our northern city. The ice and snow is gone almost everywhere :D

Here\'s the Royal Opera to the left, and in the background you can see Grand Hotel, where I used to work cleaning rooms when I was 19. It\'s teh red building with a green roof.

Now here\'s two views of the centre of Stockholm. This is where the Old Town is located, but as you can see we also have such modern things as subways ;) The ice hasn\'t melted in the last pic, but soon it will be gone! The church tower that you can see in both pics belongs to the oldest church in Stockholm. It\'s from the year 1300 or thereabout, and 17 swedish kings and their families are buried in it. Pretty cool! It\'s called Riddarholmskyrkan (\"The Church of the Islet of Knights\" I guess a word by word translation would be)

You Europeans are so lucky to have such beauty to look at everyday. So much history in everything. It sucks to live somewhere where the oldest structures are around a hundred years old. I once worked in house that was 300 years old, an estate that belong to some British Lord back in the day. I was in awe thinking about things that must have happened there. I can\'t even imagine how I would feel standing at Stonehenge, the Colliseum, or the Acropolis. Its hard being a history buff in a country with very little history.

Frenchkid said in the 100000000£ thread that he\'d like to get an apartment in NY. Believe me, it ain\'t that great. The pictures look cool, but when your actually standing in it all you see are 1/5 of a mile high walls of concrete around you. Makes you feel a little claustrophobic, like we\'re all little lab rats running around in a maze for some greater creature\'s amusment. Stay in Europe, my sister flys there twice a year (mostly skiing), and she plans on retiring there. Since she\'s the world traveller in the family (China, Morrocco, Egypt, Hawaii, Australia, etc), I would have to take her word for it. I used to work with a lot of Italians in NY city, and they all had a plan to work here a couple of years and go back. Some actually go back, but then end up coming back here a year or two later because they get \"hooked\" on the money. South Americans are the same way, plan to go home after making a fortune, but they never leave. Almost no one makes it home. It\'s all a big trap, stay where you are and enjoy the simple things. :)

@ Astonia - Stolkholme looks incredible. I would love to walk in that church; you are a very lucky young women.:D

@freakinacage - From your pictures and my travels to England it amazes me how much parts of England look like where I live here in California. When I was near Bath I could swear I was here in Sonoma county.

a request for the Danes [or anyone who might know]

hopefully this wont get lost in here, but it seemed apropriate, rather than start a new thread.

I\'ve been looking at arial photos of big cities, and in looking at Copenhagen, I see what must have been at some point a fairly serious fort.

Now it appears to be a very defendable park of some sort. :)

Anyone want to clue me in on that? (I know I could probably google it after a while, but its neat to hear locals talk about their own backyard. )

the image:

huge star shaped island, 1/3 the way down, and a little to the right. . .can\'ty miss it. [warning: large image]

amd as long as we\'re there, and awesome overhead view of the Vatican, Trastevere, and the surrounding areas in Rome

@ blackfly - There is a fellow here in the SF bayarea that has done a series of books - Above SF, Above LA, etc. I know his last name is Cameron. Possibly Robert Cameron. You might do a word search on \"Above San Francisco\" and work from there. He has done quite a few. Good luck.

My turn.

I figured that as the only known portuguese on these forums, it was my duty to show you a little bit of the place I live.

Since I\'m feeling a little down today, I thought that maybe my Sunday motorcycle ride would cheer me up (even though today isn\'t Sunday, it\'s still a national holyday, so...).

I took my camera with me, and here\'s what I have to show you:

This is the road I take everyday from work to home, always alongside the ocean.
Is that the San Francisco bridge on the background? ;)

The moorish castle in Sintra.

The town palace, in Sintra also. Sintra was considered by Unesco as world heritage. I think of it as a modern Rivendell :)

Roca cape, the westernmost point in continental Europe.

Guincho beach, great for wind and kite surfing.

And finally, Cascais, the place where I was born (actually, the hospital is about 200 meters from here).

Hope you like them!
