Very nice pics of Portugal! My late uncle and my aunt used to love visiting the peninsula. Thanks for the views!

And I\'ll post some pics of my vacation next week. I\'ve already put up images of my current home, but now I get to put ones up of my old hometown: Mililani, Hawaii. :D

@ Shawn: I agree, great to see different places.
Actually that bridge is almost identical to the San Francisco one. I believe the same arquitect built both.

@ Equus: You\'re from Hawaii? I believe a lot of portugueses emigrated to there. The ukelele(sp) is an adaptation from a portuguese guitar, as far as I know.

@ Galante - Yup...born and raised in Mililani Town...third generation from a family of Japanese immigrants with roots in a pineapple plantation where my grandfather worked. :D

There was, indeed, many immigrants from Portugal. From what I\'ve heard, they occupied a rather interesting niche in Hawaiian plantation society, as they were usually neither brought in as laborers (like the Chinese, Japanese, and other Asian/Pacific Island folks) nor were they usually really a part of the elite of society. So I think a lot of them ended up being foremen and supervisors on the plantations, which, of course, made them the topic of many un-politically correct jokes in the islands. Guess it had to do something with being the \"middle man\" or what not. :p

I looked up the ukulele (since I vaguely remember something about them being from Portugal too), and I found out that the first ones were supposed to have been made in Braga, Portugal. I think we got malasadas from Portugal too. Yummy! Dunno if they\'re the same in Hawaii though.

Bump!

Hi Everyone - wanted to bump this thread (from page 18!) back to the top since a lot of people travel during the summers.

Sorry for the REALLY crappy pic of the fort in St. Augustine. We\'d just gotten out of the nice cold van and the lens was fogged and we didn\'t realize it. lol

@Eric: Well, given that I\'m not yet married, how does California stand to gay marriage :D
*This offer only standing as long as IPM don\'t post better views* :innocent:
(dang, I hope my SO don\'t read this thread...)

If I had a car, I\'d jump outside and take some pics, but so you\'ll have to wait a bit for a culture shock (Trier-Oldest city in Germany, yay...)

Eh, how did I miss this? I\'ll take some pics of my wonderful little part of the globe tomorrow (and all you guys in the UK can f*ck off right now before you say what a dump newcastle is :) ). Please stand by for awesome pics!

Ok, as a temporary measure, here are some pics of some pics (taken by my pa, stolen by me). Sorry about the quality, I\'ll get something better by monday.

The one I like best is the bottom one. It shows the millenium bridge (a unique structure, it leans over to allow ships to pass), the tyne bridge (the prototype to Sydney harbour built by the same engineers, identical but smaller), the \"boat\" (a floating nightclub), and the baltic art museum. As I say, I\'ll get some nicer pics for you soon.

This is the thread that Damekkos was looking for - and it\'s funny that he\'s the last one that posted in it!

As soon as we get back from our Thanksgiving trip I\'ll post pics of our cabin and of the \"new\" screened-in-porch. (Promised to do that and it\'s been over 6 mos.!)

This is sad...

I\'m the last one that posted - and in that post I promised to put up pics of the screened-in-porch - and I still haven\'t done it!

Actually, I\'m going to take pics tomorrow since the azaleas and dogwoods are blooming and post them.

I\'m ashamed of where I live after seeing all these beautiful places :p It\'s not pretty, but it\'s home, and I\'d hate to move. I live in Harringay, North London, surrounded by Wood Green, Tottenham, Crouch End and Finsbury Park.

This is a picture of one of the roads in the \"Ladder\" in Harringay. It\'s not mine, but it\'s
virtually identical:

And this is my local cinema (there\'s also Cineworld, but that\'s crap):

I\'d take some of my own, but I cant be bothered to set up the digital camera software.

Newcastle isn\'t a dump and here are a few pictures to prove it.:

The Central Arcade favourite busking grounds of many a musician due to the superb acoustics.
Please note the musician is a Northumbrian Piper, not a Bagpipe player.

EDIT: Pics are a bit large sorry.

The road follows the curve of the hillside and parrallels the course of a now long buried small river (called a Dene). This was also part of the Moat of Newcastle\'s original Normal Castle. Black Gate Museum is to the immediate right of the picture and out of frame. Most of the buildings in that area of Newcastle (going down to the Quayside )have very deep basements, some of which are 5 stories underground.

My dream is to some day travel to the UK, I love the old buildings!
