TrystanGST's WIP thread

Thanks Milosh!

Near disaster tonight - I was spending some time working on the base. Got it built, painted, everything was great. Then I went to add some resin water. Ugh. The plastic I had used to for a cylinder to let the water set was too thin, and started melting when the resin hit it. I tore it off, and the resin cooled rapidly in a nice big raindrop on the base. I couldn't remove it without taking the paint off, so I glued Imo down, and used my non-melty water effects to try and even things out. It'd be a loss if I wasn't already half arsing so much to meet the deadline. I'll put up finished pics tomorrow, after I wrap him up.

Well, after a few hours of marathon (and admittedly sloppy) NMM, I finished him. The voting link will materialize either later today or tomorrow, but for now here's the pic.

It's a tabletop+ level paint. If you actually had it in hand, and could look at it closely, it wouldn't look so nice. The blends are, well, not even really worth the name.

No matter - it beat out the competition (which at the time I turned it in was ONE other model) and so next month is the Dark Eldar Lhamaean.

I like the red color scheme with the silver nmm. Now just do an army of these and you will have the nmm down...and then i will be ready to be taught how to do it ;).

Ugh. Since I won, I got to pick next's month mini. The necrons DO have a lot of cool character models, but I wasn't about to do that again any time soon. I wandered the store twice, looking at 40k, WFB and even LoTR before picking the Dark Eldar.

It's amazing what happens when you're on a roll. Just earlier, before finding out I won, I was trying to figure out what to do next. Once I found out, I did a little homework on the Lhamaeans (never played Dark Eldar), and the idea started to form. They're poisoners, and all Dark Eldar are slavers. So viola - replace her rubber "omg poison on the blade" blade with a chain, and a snotling with a bag full of poison orbs. Weee!

Still need to smooth the wrist a bit once the glue dries - and the chain can't be attached until at least lham is painted. (And no, the cork isn't the base. It's just easy to jab the pins into for photo purposes.)

That gray is incredibly smooth, and the metallics look real. I do not care for your use of the spot green, but you're the artist and it's your vision. The base is looking good, just needs more stuff.

Sometimes, you can't sleep. This morning was one of those times. Got up at 4am, and started painting.

It looks a little rough, because it is. But keep in mind this guy is teeny, so the camera is practically touching him. (that black circle in the second pic is a standard 40k round base)
On to the Lhamaean, as soon as I can decide how I want to tackle the clothes.

Ow yeah, good stuff indeed. I'm feeling nostalgic about the oldschool stuff and the necron is looking fab!

Today has been an excellent day for productivity. And it's not over yet.
I still need to tweak the hair, but I'm going to wait until I have more of the mini filled in.

Need help you guys. I couldn't get the purple hair to work the way I wanted, so I went red. Looks cool, but it poses a new problem - what color to do the armor and skirt. I already have red and blue on the figure. Where can I go without turning her into a rainbow?

P.S. Don't mind the wierd shading on the cheeks - it doesn't look like that in person. Silly camera.

The Dark eldar is looking really good. The skin and hair really make each other pop in a nice way. I'm glad you didn't go with the "all human like aliens must have human like skin". She looks like she is going to yank that chain at any moment on the poor gobbo.
