Congratulations on making finalist Trystan. Krell really looked good there in the cabinet. Glad to get the chance to meet you as well.

Agreed man, congrats on your finalist pin! I never actually got to see the mini up close due to the crazy long case lines. We'll have to bring our entries to the next big meet up/paint-a-thon so I can actually clap eyes on it.

I've never taken the leap in to NMM myself either. I may have to strongarm my way into your tutor time with Jeff and get some basics down otherwise I fear I'll never get into it. I'm too much of a "go-with-what-you-know" guy to attempt it alone.

Drew - I'll definitely bring it next time. I don't blame you about not wanting to experiment, especially with demon entries. Although I did just that on Krell - no blending, just layering haha....

So I'm bashing out Imotekh for this Saturday, and this silver NMM is kicking my butt. I'll get it done, and it'll probably win locally, but I don't hold much hope for it here haha.
Cylinders and such I can get right pretty consistently, but complex shapes (hello head) I just can't get the contrast right.

watcha trystan first things first the NMM your doing is not bad dont get despondent it just takes time.

couple of quick observations not to be the big man just to try to help ok?

More contrast like black.....dark grey.....grey.....light grey.....very light grey.............tiny and I mean tiny dots of white on the sharp edges and heres the real clincher black right next to the white glints and edges so you have proper stark contrast. As 10 ball said to me think jewels. PM me I'll send you something got a mag or what not somewhere which is useful if you like. (er a painting mag before anyone comes out with cheeky comments I can hear you at the back Dragonsreach!)

Oh yeah do you use a flow aid or retarder in your paint mix? And do you thin thin thin the paints? Do you make sure to have two pots of water one to clean the brush and another one for a second thorough rinse and for mixing in your nice clean paints? Little things I know but at the level your at the little things are all that are left to improve.

Hope thats helpful and ive not come across as a know it all twat :)

Thanks Andy - I do thin, well usually. And I don't have any additives in my paint. I use a pot for cleaning, and I do have separate water for thinning. I'm going to keep pressing on with Imotekh, and maybe parts will get better as I go. I'll certainly get some practice!

Agreed grats.. they never gave me a pin for any of my entries... YOU BASTARDS!!! At least the lighting was good on your mini when they posted it ;).

Emp - I had to pout to get my pin....The guy didn't give me mine, but I went with Drew to get his entries and when a different guy gave a finalist his pin, I put on a sad face and said I didn't get a pin. Guy reached into his pocket and gave me one. Hooray for puppy eyes.

Anyways - lots of pics today. Got a good bit of painting done, and spent some major time cleaning/organizing my area. Went thru all my various boxes and containers and started putting bits into containers for ease of finding later. I found a lot of old cool stuff too.
Like this ork buggy, painted by my dad before I got into the hobby:

Or this pegasus I was painting as a nightmare:

A bunch of old Mutant Chronicle figures like these:

My marine, ork, and IG armies:

And probably the last thing I painted before my 12 year break:

Anyone miss the character in the old scuplts? Or snotlings?

I've been at this for a while:

And of course, I couldn't leave out Imotekh:

Crunch time for ol' Imotekh. I've suddely got things to do tomorrow and Staurday at points, so I have less time than anticipated.
I do think though that I am getting the hang of this. It's not pretty up close, because of time constraints, but I think it's good for the three foot rule. Which should put me ahead of the other BoB folks. I've seen their stuff.

Emp - yeah. I see what you mean. It was sanded down a bit, but it's not something I'm going to sweat over at this point :) Still - thanks for pointing it out.
