Ultramarine sergeant

I\'ve been painting a few gw figs for ebay, to try and scare up some money for an August camping trip. Here is the current one:

Current score:

I changed the pistol a little bit after posting the cmon entry, but before listing the auction. Auction link here shows the change. Althought the parchment on the back banner appealed to me at the time, I am less pleased with the rough look of the symbol now. I suppose I should sit on a mini for a few days before listing...

I have to admit, I\'ve been influenced by some of the exasperated \"pro-painted\" threads here, especially when some of the minis sell for a bit. If some of that rubbish can sell, then why not mine? As long as I\'m willing to work for...ohh.. $2 and hour.

Next up for the block is a Black Templar sergeant. Any advice on this guy that might help me on the next?

And just for record, for anyone who\'s seen the featured auction... I started the bidding at $20, not $85.

Great work! I like this mini. If I could afford it I would bid for it in fact :) there is a nice classic feel to the whole mini, and the blue tone is great. The scratches are very well done. I would agree about the symbol being a bit rough (the paper is maybe too yellow as well), and the purity seals and gun could use more depth. But overall, a really nice job! 8.5 from me :D
Happy painting :flip:

I agree - the scratches are very well done, but I think the banner is:

a> A bit too yellow (Faded paper tends to go a sepia/browny-tea-yellow)

b> Could be blended a bit better

But overall pretty good :)
I hope it sells too :)

I like it very much. I think more work into basing should have been put to really make the mini shine however. Been and voted, a solid 9 for me.

I think its about a 7.5. Its a nice mini but it lacks the pop that would let me vote over 8 for it. I like the battle damage and the freehand I think the rest of the armour needs to have more contrast.

Great job did the vote thing.

I like it, but with the choice of colours screams crimson fist to me, rather than Ultramarines. Good luck with the auction, hope you raise enough for your august campaign.

Patrick, that is exactly the sort of ebay advice I\'ve been looking for. Thank you for posting that.

OrkyDave, what do think makes it look more crimson fisty over ultramariney? color? trim? I don\'t typically paint either chapter, so any info is good info.

Thanks for all the comments and tips! I\'ll get a 7.0 one of these days!

Just the fact that theres a lot of red and blue on the model (the loincloth and weapons) and they are the colours of the crimson fists (although the fists aint red!)

Don\'t get me wrong, I think its a well painted piece, its just it looks more crimson fists than ultramarines to me, especially as they are darker shades of red and blue.

Hope you don\'t take it the wrong way, its just my opinion and its given in the spirit of helpfulness:)

No, I really appreciate the advice! This is precisely the sort of observation I need, especially since I\'m painting them to sell right now.

Thanks again!
