Various Recent Pieces

Hi all, I don't post here as much as I ought to, but I thought I'd pop a few of my recent pieces in here as several have been in competition and had some varying levels of success...

First of all, I went to Euro Militaire in September, for the 1st time and was fortunate enough to pick up 2 silver medals and a commendation for 3 of my pieces.

They were Y'Sala & the Darkness, which has been around for a little while now, and picked up a silver - http://www.coolminiornot.com/272870
My version of the Steampunk Jen Haley, which also got a silver - www.coolminiornot.com/280277
And my take on Hasslefree's Tomoko, which got the commendation - www.coolminiornot.com/286245

At the same time as Tomoko, I painted up some other Hasslefree models (for a competition on Wamp), which are always great fun, and was really lucky to pick up best in class in each case...

And Grimdalf with Heyu - www.coolminiornot.com/286246

I'm a big fan of Kev White's stuff, and seem to have gravitated to his sculpts for other companies of late too (like his Kara Black model for Studio McVey - www.coolminiornot.com/281971), but also, just lately I've got quite into a newer company from a very talented sculptor, which is Statuesque Miniatures by Andrew Rae. Just this last weekend I held my 1st painting class through Platoon Britannica, and I chose one of Andrew's sculpts as the subject, Bella the Partisan. In preparation for the event, I painted up a version of her, as I was inspired by her look, to be a modern day Cuban freedom fighter...

Her voting linky is here - www.coolminiornot.com/290429

Finally (sorry, I won't keep you long! lol), here is the Kingdom Death 54mm Twilight Knight that I converted and painted up a few weeks ago...

And her voting linky - www.coolminiornot.com/290038

I wanted to try her out as a bit of a departure from how I "normally" paint, and had a great time experimenting with a high fantasy kind of colour scheme.

Anyway, I hope that you like. I know that most of these have been seen on some of the other forums, but if you've not been badgered by me already, then I'd be very pleased to hear what you think of my last few months' work :)

Cheers,

Scott

Fantastic stuff, one question - where was the Platoon Brittanica painting class, and will you be doing another? I've been on the lookout for a tutorial painting session that I can get to for the last few months, not wanting to sound like a gushing fool you are one of my favourite artists and I'd very much like to attend your next class :)

Edit: ptyso

Stick your head in at PB mate. Daft thing was, I drove all the way from just up the road to you (Frinton) to Liverpool for the classes, but got stuck just outside of Stansted for nearly 2 hours on Friday because of an accident on the M11 involving a horse that got loose...!

Also, there are some semi-regular meet ups in Cambridge, at Inner sanctum, on Saturdays. Some of the PB guys are meeting there on November 12th - http://www.platoonbritannica.com/index.php?threads/meet-12th-november.991/

Ah we do like our 'horse on the road' related delays round here - there's about a billion stud farms within a small stones throw of my house.

I shall indeed pop-in to Brittanica, I'd not heard of it before. I've got next week off during which I'm hoping to paint up a storm, and I'll try to make it up to Inner Sanctum on Saturday, rah!

Horses have all those fields to run around in, why play on the roads?

I think that Fet and maybe one or two others will be in Inner Sanctum this weekend, and then the more "official" gathering is on the 12th.

Thanks for the kind words too, chaps.

@Anders - Yes, it was really nice to get her completed after Euro. I really enjoyed taking a slightly different approach to the whole thing, and the skin in particular.

I would very much appreciate it if peeps take the time to vote on some/all of these too, as several are hovering around the 50 votes mark, and so the sniper coefficient hasn't kicked in yet.

As a small aside, I've noticed that it takes an awful lot longer to get to 50 votes these days, especially if the model is close to, but just a few points away from the "best last 7 days" page. I don't whether it's the subject matter or just the numbers of voters are less of late? Certainly since I stopped doing spacemarinez the traffic has been slower for me (.... maybe I should do one for old time's sake........ ...... ..... nah! lol)

Nice seeing them all again Iacton, there's some quality work there :good:

I think Ray's still my fave too, pondering as to why and I think it's because I'm so used to thinking of that model as a Z-Hunter that it's massively refreshing to just see him playing cricket! Seems such an obvious setting for the mini but it never occurred to me :D

Cheers, B.

A couple of 'quick' pieces that I did last week for fun...

These are the soon to be released Hasslefree Grymn officers, Admiral Almos and Colonel Hogan.

These little sculpts have such characterful faces, and nice little uniforms to paint up too. The Almos guy I did in the Battlestar Galactica type uniform (seeing as he looks like an abbreviated Admiral Adama ;) ), and Hogan I did in a sort of Sci-Napoleonic sort of style, just for the heck of it :D

Hope that you like,

My latest offering is up, and she's a bit of an experiment of 2 new things for me.
WS7.jpg

One is the application of tattoos, which I've not done before to any real effect, and the other was the use of fluorescent artists acrylics to intensify the OSL effect on the model. I was really pleasantly surprised at how effective this was, and she really does glow whilst stood in the cabinet too!

It's a shame her dagger and it's effects are lost in darkness.
Do you have close ups? I wanna scrutinize her impressive tats.

I haven't really, Tommie :(

It's a bit of a balancing act, as a single light (it's a great big SAD lamp actually) above and to the front of the tent gives the pics that you see, but if I use 3 lamps, like I do a lot of my stuff, the fluorescent behaves very differently.

I do have this rough shot, before I finished off, but there's lots of dust and crap on it :-s
