What\'s your favourite album?

I find that rap\'s a hard thing to like these days, even though only a few years ago it was probably my favourite type of music. There\'s just an awful lot of very successful, but very bad (to the point of sounding so stupid it\'s cringe worthy) new stuff coming out. Formulaic to the extreme and it seems to have seeped into the work of people who used to make more interesting and inventive stuff too unfortunately. It may just be that I\'ve changed too of course.

Saying that, best rap/hip hop albums for me:

De La Soul - 3 Feet High And Rising
Scarface - The Fix
Ice Cube - AmeriKKKa\'s Most Wanted
Eminem - The Eminem Show
Outkast - Speakerboxx/The Love Below
The Fugees - The Score
Wu Tang Clan - Enter The Wu Tang (36 Chambers)
Jurassic 5 - Quality Control
Nas - Illmatic, Stillmatic and God\'s Son
Cannibal Ox - The Cold Vein (if you like Wu Tang you\'ll probably enjoy this)
DJ Format - Music For The Mature B-Boy
Beastie Boys - Ill Communication
Snoop Dog - Doggystyle
Slick Rick - The Great Adventures of Slick Rick
Big Pun - Capital Punishment
Edan - Primative Plus
Handsome Boy Modeling School - So... How\'s Your Girl?

Totally agree. I download almost no new stuff anymore, just old classics that I haven\'t heard yet.

Can\'t believe I left off OutKast\'s \"Aquemini\" from my list, damn I love that album. \"Return Of The \"G\"\' is a perfect analysis of \"gangster\" culture and attitude.

Petey and lono you guys are both on point, most of the new music by mainstream artists is awful unless you go deep and search for the underground artists, but basically very few keep integrity. Lovin your list lono except if your looking for the best outkast album its gota be aquemini, then southernplayalisticcadillacmusic but speakerbox/love below is next. as for petey your doing what is right takin it back to the true hip hop, keep at it if you havent heard big L and you enjoy NY bboy style rap then check out some tracks awesome

I haven\'t got round to downloading Big L\'s \"Lifestyle of da Poor & Dangerous\". Have to get that soon :D
Another reminder, Mobb Deep\'s \"The Infamous\" is another great album I\'m listening to at the moment.
And please tell me you\'ve heard \"Food and Liquor\"? When I finished listening to that I was eyes-wide amazed.
Non-rap, I\'m very fond of Mastodon\'s \"Leviathan\". Great album.

Wow - I didn\'t think there was anyone else out there that liked Hip Hop AND Mastodon!
I much prefer \'Remission\' to \'Leviathan\' personally, but they both put \'Blood Mountain\' to shame.

You guys know Aesop Rock? \'Labour Days\' is absolutely stunning, prob\' my fave Hip Hop album. First Dilated Peoples record is good, and \'36 Chambers\' rules.

Really got to agree with you all on the state of music right now - you\'ve gotta dig deep to find anything worth while, no matter the genre.

It\'s so strange to me that several people here have been surprised folks have versatile and broad ranging taste. Genres are for suckers and if you start to pigeon hole yourself into an \'I only like rap\' or \'I only like classical\' etc state of mind then you are going to miss out on so much fine music. Music influences other music across the genres. The more you listen to, the more you notice this, and the more you start to appreciate even more wide ranging stuff.

Oh, as for Aesop Rock, yup, great stuff. Crooked, with Evil Nine has been a favourite web video of mine for ages. Very groovy. Check it out!

I think having to dig out the better music makes it mean more to you, maybe enjoy it more. I agree with lono each type of music influences another a key example is kanye west and stronger as a recent example. so really you never can just like one genre cos genre\'s are for suckers.
dilated peoples are so underrated.
enter the 36 chambers is a awesome album.
anyone like MF doom?

I think it really says something that people are surprised, to the point of not being able to understand why you like different kinds of music. The only consideration when choosing what to listen to is whether its good or bad to your ears!

Its interesting you should bring up the subject of having to find music out too - I find the rise of the \'Myspace\' thing, while great for being able to check out music by almost anyone, does make actually finding someone new not feel so special. Maybe thats just me!

I think its common opinion that the Def Jux label is a definite sign of GOOD music by the looks of things!

If you like Mastodon, a band from Wales called TAINT is worth checking out - \'The Ruin of Nova Roma\' is probably more consistant than anything Mastodon have put out so far.

Hmmm tough one...
In no particular order:

Mad Caddies: Live in Toronto
Beastie Boys: License to Ill
Metallica: Master of Puppets
Paul Oakenfold: Voyage into Trance
Mighty Mighty Bosstones: Live from the Middle East
Pretty much anything by Modest Mouse

So much great music out there :)

That is so true. Usually threads like these irritate me a bit, a poster will ask for your favourite, and people will respond with every album they like. Want to grab them by the ears and yell \"Pick ONE, dammit, ONE!!!\".

But there\'s simply too much good music. Listening to Andreas Vollenweider, I could add four or five of his albums to my already bursting-at-the-seams Top Three.
