White Scar Marine

Hi all,

I completed this model a few days ago and it was a first attempt at white armour - which I\'m fairly happy with (except for the fact that I used a white spray primer that was blobby and grainy). I also had a go at a bit of SENMM on a couple of parts, which I am not so happy about.
I also really struggled to work the highlighting of the reds.
I would really appreciate any pointers or advice on that score, and anything else that springs to mind too.

I\'m also getting used to my new home studio/light tent thingy, so I think that the pic is a bit over exposed.

Cheers

I think you did a fantastic job on the white armor. However, the red seems a bit flat.

I know red is a real b*tch to photo well, maybe that\'s the issue.

Cool mini!

I think the mini as a whole is really great. Whats your technique for battle damage? Everything is very smooth and I can\'t offer any advice on the red as I am struggling with that too  Overall though its an awesome mini.

Overall looks good, i like it and know how much white can be a pain to paint.

The red does look a little flat but is notorious for being a ass pain to picture.

bar that all is sweet

Great stuff .. as mentioned red is a bugger to capture right on the pics and only you can be the judge of that.. the only advice I could offer without seeing the mini in the flesh is to maybe bring a bit of highlight into it by adding elf flesh but mix and apply sparingly..
Overall very nice work....

Thanks guys.

The red is a complete pain in the buttox both to photograph and to paint. I am quite happy to do \"dark\" reds, but getting the brighter reds right is something that I really struggle with.
I think that I definitely need to expand the range of paints that I use 1st - this model is all GW paint - and so I\'ve started with some Vallejo colour now.
As far as the \"white\" and the damage is concerned, I used a very similar process to the article by Cyril that is here on the site (and in the CMoN ebook too! ;) )
My main diversions from Cyril\'s \"recipe\" is that I use the GW washes a lot - especially the black, sepia and mud washes.
My usual recipe for damage is sketch in with a dark grey (codex/black 50/50), then fill out the damage with 50/50 codex grey/dark flesh. highlight the bottom edge of the scratches with white and detail the top of the scratches with black ink. It isn\'t always done in that order, but does always include those steps :D
