Wholesale plastic sources?

I\'m wondering how miniature companies create the plastic bases that come with their miniatures. I\'m sure that the larger companies like GW have their own in-house \"foundry\" for lack of a better word, but I\'m more interested in the small run companies. (perhaps Dave/borg can help most with this -- where do you get your bases?)

Also, hypothetically speaking, if I had a new base design or I needed a source of plastic goodies, where would I go?

We buy our bases from different manufacturers. We used to use GW bases for our New Wave miniatures, but now we use Dark Age bases because they just look so much better. While I can\'t tell you where GW get theirs, I am sure they have a plastic plant somewhere making these, they are pretty well vertically integrated. Most others buy from similiar sources I assume, so that they don\'t have to pay for the mold, which is not cheap. I think Dark Age has theirs made in China somewhere. Who doesn\'t at this day and age :D

Plastic is different than metal, metal, you can make however many you want whenever you want, and the mold is relatively cheap. With plastic, the process is far more complicated, and you have to make a stainless steel mold, and that can be very very costly. And you have to make a large quantity in order for it to be worthwhile....

did that help???
