Why do you buy minis?

I recently bought A blister just so I could pull off a joke.
I bought the Reaper musical instruments set so that I could do the “world’s tiniest violin” joke.
(You know, when someone is whining about something you pretend to play the world’s tiniest violin in mock sympathy)
So now when someone whines I can actually pull out a tiny little violin and pretend to play it.

For some reason my wife didn’t think this was very funny the first time I used it.

Are you stupid?

(I buy minis because the thought of not buying a great mini, only to have it vanish forever from production, is terrifying)

I buy mini\'s because they\'re like a drug.

I usually walk into a shop or go on e-bay, think \"O that looks nice, that\'ll be cool to paint\" take it home, but it in a box thinking I\'ll just finish some others first. Following day or week.........\"O that looks nice that\'ll be cool to paint\" go home put it in a box, thinking I\'d better paint the last lot I bought first.

Next day or week \"O that looks nice..........\" you get the picture.

Well, usually the subject of the joke don\'t find it funny.
But I think this is an all time classic, and a lesson of existence too, and the fact that added a prop to must make it even more efficient^^

I actually only bought two minis so far, so I can\'t say much about the topic... I actually bought them since there was not much point
having these paints and brushes without any minis to paint.
Since then I\'ve been painting other people\'s minis.

@Charlie: If you stop saying you suck so much, you would probably improve a lot faster. Tell yourself you are a dormant painting god for a change !
Just look at my first minis, we all sucked before we decided otherwise.

I always buy minis with the ambition to paint it because I think I would be able to do something cool with it. Sometimes, after a while, I find minis I\'ve bought and think to myself \"What the hell was I thinking??\", but mostly when I find something I almost forgot I had I think \"Ah, this is cool! I should paint it!\" and then put it back in the box where I found it because I already have 30-ish works-in-progress... But sometimes I do start painting it (which explains the 30-ish, soon to be 40-ish, works-in-progress...). :innocent:

And stay away from that PS2

Well, I\'m glad you appreciate the humor.
Oh, and the post was a bit sly on my part. My wife was not the subject of the joke, but rather some whiny contestants on America\'s Next Top Model.

I game, so sometimes I buy for my faction.
I paint, so sometimes I buy just for painting fun potential.
I need to fund this nutty addiction, so sometimes I buy just for painted sale potential.

I have managed to steer clear of the \"collector\" aspect. I have had opportunity to buy out of production minis that would have had no appeal for me other than their out of production status and have resisted.

Brilliant! Now that is a clever way of giving our hobby mass appeal. Try it out in a couple other venues and I bet you\'ll get some better responses.

I buys \'em when I likes \'em. Though like Ritual I now have several that I look at and wonder what the heck I was thinking, it seems my taste changed a fair amount in the first 6-12 months of taking up the hobby. I buys \'em when they\'re on a good sale, or when I\'m placing an order for something and there are some other somethings I might as well just get now and get my shipping\'s worth. Occasionally I buy some I might not really go out of my way for normally to support smaller companies that I feel need support for whatever reason.

My father was a Magpie. I\'m easily distracted. For example I\'ll be painting up a Warmachine character and I\'ll take a break and browse the web and go \"oooo thats quite shiney\" and buy it and bam! I\'m the prowd owner of the TAG US Marines SAW diorama.
