I\'ve come to understand (and this may have already been said but hey it can be said again) that the scores are changing overall because the bar is rising.
I mean, some of the stuff coming out these days is absolutely AMAZING! And very few of these are getting higher than 9.5, well some, but not very many. It\'s testament to the fact that CMON has been helping the community develop a Godlike standard in painting, and it\'s getting harder and harder to rate minis because of the incredible levels that are being achieved.
It\'s great but at the same time disheartening for someone who once was easily achieving 8 - 8.5 but now they can only get a 7 - 7.5 and their painting is BETTER than it used to be.
Now I know this isn\'t the definitive answer, but it is one. There are other factors, like *woah baby ultra cool* issues where a model is scratchbuilt and presented that is so mindblowingly awesome that a mediocre paintjob doesn\'t pull it down much. And then there are the ones where it\'s the ultimate paintjob but the minis is just well...ordinary so it gets a lower score....
And then there\'s snipers...
I\'m not stressed about it anymore because I come to accept it as part of the logical progression of the site. The standard rises so far that 5 for a tabletop mini is getting hard to score. I\'ve seen tabletop quality going at 3-4. That\'s silly coz the MIDDLE range is tabletop ok quality, but again the tabletop standard is rising.
Lets just hope the trend doesn\'t discourage newcomers from entering the ranks of CMONers and just having a go, and we can all stand back and watch them grow and give our advice to help them along.
If the scoring trend starts to kill that, then we\'re in trouble.
