WIP advice... no contrast!

Help! I\'m painting a Blood Angels Chaplain, and I\'m stuck differentiating different red areas. Does anyone have an idea how to make the gun arm stand out more, or how to make the insides of the shoulder pads work? Currently the inside of the pads is red gore, and there\'s some charred earth washing to the arm, neither of which show up very well in the photo next to the blood red main color. And purity seals... does anyone do them a different color than red? Cobra leather maybe?

Sorry for the pic. It was taken this morning in front of my doorwall, so there\'s way too much sunlight and the speculars are overwhelming. I may copy that specular on the left leg above the knee though.

Some people do purity seals green (sorry for the photo quality, this is a Gold winning regiment ):

But I think you can improvise; think of colours that people might use for RL wax seals. Blood Red + Codex Grey makes a really cool waxy or faded/bleached red colour, I used some of this mix on Lord Castor of Kislev- you can look at him via the link in my sig. for the rest of the reds... hmm... try adding dwarf flesh to blood red for non-pinky highlights, and maybe for the darker parts (eg. under his shoulderpads) don\'t just add browns, but add black, to make them starker; I think subtlety may be lost on such vivid reds.

Dont forget some good old darklining to create definition.

As for the red, try creating your shadows using some green into the shadowy areas.
