Hi all this is my current WIP,

7b80.jpg

This is my take on the Rackhams Wolfen Prowler. The paintwork is all but done and now I need help with the base.
I want to model a pool of water around the rock that he is standing on but I have never modelled water before.
Any help that you can give will be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Sorry DR I forgot to preview before I posted it. It is working now so again any help would be very much appreciated.

Never modelled water myself, but I\'d go for resin. You could try looking for some on the 4D Model Shop web site.

I\'m too lazy to look myself, but I know they did have resins available.

For actual products, the following are listed in the Osprey Terrain Modelling book:

E-Z-Water by Woodland Scenics

Nimix from Historex Agents

Solid Water by Deluxe

Oh and you could try Tiranti\'s. They sell lots of embedding resins. Do a search for Alec Tiranti. They\'re a sculptors paradise.

Be careful with resins though. Some can react badly with other materials. They can melt plastics and paintwork (which I discovered to my dismay when at uni!).

I think white glue mixed with a bit of blue or with blue painted underneahth could work. And the pic still isn;t working for me.

The Tiranti web address should be:

www.tiranti.co.uk

Site seems to be down right now though! Try again later.

One other point on resins. If you have to mail order them, you might get stiffed on the postage. I\'m not sure they can be sent through the post (my acetone from Tiranti\'s couldn\'t!), so they had to use a courier. That was £7 postage!

Sorry I\'ll try this to see if the pic will show.

As I said before the painting of the mini is very nearly complete so the base is next.
Thanks for the comments so far I bought some liquid water which is quite heavy bodied rather like extra thick PVA glue but I wasn\'t happy with the way it looked when I tested it.
I want to give the appearance of depth so I need to mix some colour into it.

Nice !!

Love it so far, and the base looks great to. May I ask how you did that skin tone since I tried to get the same skintone on the last devourer I did but didn\'t really suceded ???

Skin Tone

I did the skintone starting with a base of Shadow Grey over a black undercoat, it took a couple of coats to get a nice even base. Then I mixed in little amounts of Ghostley Grey into the Shadow Grey until I got the level of highlight I wanted.
The lightest parts like around the muzzle are pretty near pure Ghostley Grey with just a touch of Shadow Grey.

I was trying to do it using blue and adding white but sisn\'t seem to really work that way, now I\'ll just have to rush of and buy another devourrer to try this on :D

that is absolutely gorgeous tidoco!

I\'d heard good things about the \"Realistic Water\" made by Woodland Scenics, I haven\'t tried it yet, but it seems very simple and yields good results.
