Basing my FBoC

Well, here his is on the beginnings of his base (I also put down the black base coat on his wings, but I\'m not done with his wings yet!). I\'m thinking of doing it so the rock formation he\'s on is sticking up out of water, so does anyone know a good tutorial on doing water bases? I\'ve never done one before.

@ Klute: Nice divine spirit, Love her colors! (Red is my Fav). BTY, I read your article here about your water base on your Death Cult Assassin. Is PVA glue the same as Elmer\'s glue? Do you thing your method would work if I\'m going for a deep water look?

@ Tracy: Very cool Ogre. Your foray into using green stuff seems to have been successful. Are you gonna use it more often now?

@ NSA: Your Emperor\'s looking good so far. I don\'t think he looks at all like a bottle of Crown Royal (ok...I don\'t know what the Crown Royal bottles look like ;) )

Ok, here\'s the pic. Any water basing advice?

@TAB: Voted and commented great job.
@duende: Haven\'t seen the article (going over to look for it after :D) But I think if you paint the base dark blue and then put some PVA (same as elmer, it\'s basic white glue) over it you\'ll get a deep water effect. That\'s how I do mine anyway :p

@Duende.......Im not sure about Elmers as its the brand name.As long as it says PVA glue it should be OK but always test it.
Doing deeper water I would put it on in layers, sometimes when its thick it will dry on the outside and the inside takes forever and could yellow.
I paint the \"river bed\" greens and browns over black and add some detritus like flattened static grass and some small pebbles.

Article

I would go easy with the painting of the surf though.

Is that how you did the base on your Yovanka?

Yup for exemple. :D
Never tried mixing the paint in the glue like klute does but guess it must work too. I didn\'t do it at the time because I was trying to get the transparent look of the water.

I didn\'t mix the paint in the glue.I painted the river bed on first then when dry I applied the glue over the top.

I did something similar on my Arwen model - I simulated a shallow, pebbled stream bed by painting a pebble pattern, then covering it with glossy acrylic medium. The medium is stiff enough that it was sculptable, so I could make it look like shallow fast-running water. I think it would be hard to get it to look like still water though :(

Alas my pebble pattern is not very convincing :(

It\'s linked at the word \"Arwen\" in my previous post.

Well, purple or blue would both look good with the yellow armour. Maybe you could do purple like on the Emperor model I posted (It\'s easily the best purple I\'ve ever done) - shade with purple/black mix to make it \"deep\", and highlight up by mixing Bleached Bone to make it \"warm\". As for blue... I suck at blue :(

Brushlicker and Freak!
@ NSA That looks pretty good, I thionk it would be interesting to add a little green and blue inks to that, you could do it in layers and mix with clear layer on top, could be very cool. I think though for shallow water thats probably the best way I\'ve seen, mainly because it doesn\'t involve messing about mixing and pouring resin!

That\'s more of Nathan\'s field of expertise I think, you\'ll have to ask him lol.

TAB that leviathon is a cool model and is high on my wish list, looking forward to seeing it painted up. Anyway another attempt at flesh tones and what a daunting subject this is going to be. This is Thrudd the Barbarian from Heresy in fact this is the ltd edition model that was limited to 500 castings I believe. I have the certificate signed by the sculptor and Mr Critchlowe the creator of Thrudd.

Anyway I intend also to have a go at NMM on the axe head and helmet so that should be fun. I thought I should get it done as I have just ordered the Heresy Classic Thrudd.

So let me enter the painting dance with a picture of the Karnargh I\'m currently painting:

To me those creases in the... kilt? seem a little strange, as if a normal garment would not fall like this, but I like the mini anyway ;) Now to ruin it with my paintjob :D
