@Tab, well I have you to thank, I would never have thought about trying one of these models...until you made me! But I really want to take this one slow and perfect each surface, and really work on my technical ability.

@Malleus The colors are simple, it\'s everyone\'s favorite shadow grey blended to white with just a splash of Scaley green in the dark shadows, (accented by the same color for her lips). If you notice her robe is already underway as the same scaley green. I think it came out smoothly because it probably ended up being about 25 layers of VERY thin paint, took about 4-5 hours to just get all the skin done on her that way.

thanks Klute :)

PS this is going to be my sophmore effort at a painted reflection as well, I\'ll keep posting WIP\'s as I go if people are interested, I was mostly just excited about the result I got on that face.

thx Eric! I must get shadow grey - it looks so nice with this purple tint. I even thought you might have added a drop of liche purple :) .
4-5 hours on the face  ....
well I think you made me want to have a go at one of those dark age models :D .
keep the pics coming.....

Very nice work there, Eric.

And, just because, I\'ll throw in a couple of crappy pix of what I\'m currently working on.

That\'s Deneghra, from WARMACHINE. I really like the sculpt, and I\'m having fun playing with metallics again. I\'ve done a tiny bit of OSL on her soul cages, too, but the pic doesn\'t show it since my camera is teh suck. ;)

Eric .... you took the challenge as any brave knight would and you indeed show you are up to it... It will be grand and this is the place for you I feel that peeps here are honest.
Valander you brave man I love war machine and it looks great.... I must admit metallics are growing on me sad I know but true the alcohol based Vallejo is getting to me in the name of research for Joshua I fall victim :D( I have indeed found you can thin them with acetone one small step for painter).

The blade still looks really grey like stone. I\'d highlight it up some more as well. As Zaphod once told me, you have to highlight it up to pure white a some point to make it look good...
Yes it does look like stone. I\'m going to try a faint faint blue glaze to try and dispel that, also I might make the dark side of the blade darker. I think one problem is it\'s a difficult blade to learn NMM on - 4 facets... :)

@EricJ - holy $%&#@. Patience is rewarded, I don\'t know how you concentrated on a 28mm FACE for 4 hours?! She looks great, you managed to make the coloured shadows blend naturally and not look like skanky makeup.

@valander - nice colour scheme! Purple and gold look great together, though you have to be careful your character doesn\'t come out looking like a bottle of Crown Royal lol Anyway the purple is nice and rich, the highlights did not wash it out. And metallics are still my choice for depicting metals, recent attempts at NMM notwithstanding.

@ Valander - nice work man, really like that color scheme. (And what\'s wrong with looking like a bottle of Crown Royal) lol I love to see great metallics, seems like they\'ve become the red headed step children of CMON.

@Eric - that face is just stunning Eric. Keep this up and you\'re going to rival some of the greats. Can\'t wait to see the rest.

Cheers,
Grumb

@Eric--I\'ll echo what Grumb said,we\'ll be calling you Seifu soon lol I\'m going to spend days trying to get blends like that, the green in the recess of the cheek looks pukka!
@Valander--Great metallics, they look proper bright like they\'re reflecting plenty of light!

Thanks, all. The color scheme is definitely a \"dangerous\" one, as it can very easily look like Crown Royal, and everyone here should know by now I prefer Captain Morgan\'s. ;)

Playing with metallics again is really kind of cool. I think that all the NMM work I was doing has really helped me with real metallics. Plus, I\'ve figured out how to use Vallejo metallics (the plain acrylics, not alcohol-based) with tweening, so I\'m a happy camper.

Also... the Vallejo Metallic Medium is the bomb. According to their blurb on their website, you can add a bit of this stuff to regular metallics to lighten their tone without reducing their, uh, metallicness. Basically, it\'s like adding white metallic. Makes getting some nice gradients in metallics much easier, and more natural looking.

Still, after Eric\'s and some of the other posts in this thread, I don\'t know why I bother with this camera... doesn\'t look anything like the model, and that\'s as close as I can get to it, too. :(

Oh yes I agree with the medium and they also have an aluminum color kinda whiteish that picks up washes in a very nifty way

Well, yes, as far as that goes.

Thing is my camera is a very old Sony Mavica FD-73. Max resolution is a whopping 640x480. I can get halfway decent pics with it if I set up a full lighting rig and stuff, but can\'t get too much out of it. I actually get better pics from it without using its \"macro\" feature (which is actually just a fixed focus thing), and using the optical zoom. For a WIP, though, I didn\'t feel like setting up the full lighting thing. ;)

ok, I\'ve gotten a little past the face now on this one (the skin and robe are largely finished), but now I have a question. I need to decide whether to do gold or silver se-nmm for the metal armor and helmet. Here are my thoughts on it

I\'m shooting for a very water-based scene, so I was trying to stay away from warm colors, so silver seemed the way to go. It would be Sky-Water NMM, so instead of brown on the bottom use a aqua or green for it. Which seems like it would be just too much of those colors on the model. However gold wouldn\'t be quite so \"watery\" so to speak.

Oh, and ideas for the leather arm and leg would be nice too! I\'ve never really used these colors much so this one is a bit of a struggle for me.

Thanks for the help!

PS if you get sick of this one, blame Becca! she\'s the one that talked me into taking WIP photos and now I\'m addicted, it helps so much to really \"see\" the model as you work on it and to make changes for the better before it\'s done. :)

Sweet Eric.
I would stick with silver.Do a quick photoshop with the pic you have there to see what the colours look like.

Sick with such a beauty ??? No way!
I agree that adding warm tones could spoil the feel of the model. On the other hand nmm silver could blend with a skintone :( . Maybe you could try some unrealistic (but who said it have to be realistic) wacky colored nmm, like greenish ??? I think that leather parts could look cool painted with some purple (but pale highlighted).

Ok, I thought I`ll throw a bit updated pic of the giant. Still far from a present state, but I should post really updated pics (posibly even of a completed model :) ) when I find time to work on them (resize, correct brightness).
I hope you don`t mind size of the pic - it`s huge model so it`s difficult to make a small one.

Eric, have thought of a gold with a heavy green patina? I\'m no Golden Demon painter, but I think that should work and bind the colours together...

B
@Eric--you could use a darker blue for the leather pieces,I don\'t see too much probs with using the same colours as long as they\'re different tones. My painting jaargon is s**t! lol Er,I\'ll say the same for the NMM,silver I think is the way to go to retain the feel of the palette, like you say with a green reflection, different tone.I think what Malleus Mini Art said is a top idea, paint the armour purple or some other outlandish colour, that could save the indescision on the gold silver issue! :D I can\'t help getting worked up when I see a pic like that face shot,so excuse me if I\'m babbling! ;)
@MalleusMiniArt--That\'s just monstrous! Love the effect on the scales :D
