Thanks for the feedback guys,

@ Nelson, the plate armour is done with a Catchan Green base and then adding small amounts of Fortress Grey to it for the highlighting keeping the paint very thin.

@ NSA I haven\'t given the weapon or the back pack much thought yet but will have to think about it as it is getting close to me painting these areas.

Stef that nid is looking cool will you be using at GW Leics on Vet nights if so I will have to come down for a look on week.

Bloody Tidocco upping the ante on the Sacred Blade stuff,who\'s stupid idea was it to pass his name on?;)
No seriousely great work Tim,its nice to see what below average painters make of those sculpts:eek:
Sorry can\'t help myself, the cyborg is looking awesome.Like the plating.I think the skin could do with another highlight(final light source maybe?).It really is an impressive figure.
Well Ive got another one of the first wave finished and the first of the second wave though Im on editing the final pics.
In the meantime heres a wip of the Merc Assassin that I fell in love with when I saw the green made by Ash.

Now I so want to leave the coat black leather but you all know what blacks like. Also the trim around the undercoat.I dont know whether to go gold or silver but the white of the undercoat looks so good too???
NMM on this one too,and by the way theres a little surprise in store with this one which Im quite proud of;)

klute: black leather.. maybe two kinds of different highlights. First subtle highlight with a slightly coloured grey perhaps and glaze with a dark red or blue in the crevaces to create depth. Leather will give pretty heavy glares.. so some contrasted highlights where a light source might fall perhaps?

My recent project, a gift to my girlfriend:
SorceressWIP6.jpg

Bretonnian Sorceress 28mm

The face is pretty much finished but the freckles didn\'t turn up so good in the photo.

hope she doesn\'t get the silly idea to visit the cmon forum :)

great mini Avelorn. I like the color scheme - nice rich colors. the freckles really add character to the model. how have you painted semi transparent clothing? i`ve once tried this effect but i wasn`t happy how it turned out.

@Avelorn...she is beautiful. The clothing is excellent and a very nice subtle sheer look.Im not sure about the freckles, they look heavy like she is masked a bit,but you do mention the photo.Sometimes you need to paint for the camera.Personally I would wash them out a bit with a mid skintone. The eyes are fantastic.

Black leather....hmmmmm....abrupt highlights.I think some research is in order.Probably end up brown though:D

@ Avelorn Nice work.

Mark that is a very nice mini I am going to have to buy myself one of those. I don\'t think you have to worry about my painting level too much and I enjoy turning out the odd surprise every now and then before dropping back to my below average status. :D

@Avelorn Speaking as a freckled one, the freckles could perhaps come a bit further down the cheeks and get a skin color glaze. That way they will look less like a mask. (Although you risk them looking like the measels!) Fantastic job though.

Klute: What you could do is do some several thin coats of black and get a even and good coat, then use some black in for the shading and do just thin lines for highlighting, doesn\'t have to be really smooth. Check out Jakob Nielsen\'s site for a tutorial and some inspiration. The mini looks good so far.

Avelorn: That\'s very nice ! i like the freckle effect :D

Ok, this AINT painted (yet!). It\'s a composite image to help me with the OSL from his two \'Lightkatanas\'

I\'m thinking of using purely the colours of the lightsources - on the base as well. As if he\'s in a pitch black room. Might even have him duelling...

Any advice or help would be much appreciated!

hi everybody...

I am doing something similiar spacemunkie, and could use some pointers too...

oslwip.jpg

it is supposed to be some object light sourcing coming from the skull in his sceptre. The base isn\'t painted yet, but I am going to try something similar.

Ideally, the monster is in a pitch black cave, with only the sceptre as his light source.
Any help would be appreciated.

thanks Erik V.

Thanks for the feedback! the freckles turned out a more orange in the picture. I did glaze them a bit with my mid skin tone, should perhaps do one more turn. I\'ll see what I can do :)

I\'m not sure what you mean by a mask. Do you mean it looks like they are linked together and not individual dots. Or do you mean that they are too strong or wrong colour? Or maybe a combination.. ;)

Malleus: I mixed green with the skin colour and carefully glazed it where I thought the skin would have most contact with the fabric. So mostly on stretched areas and in some crevaces.

hehehe

I started doing the \"pitch black\" osl months ago...shes sitting as a wip. I know i took papa into a picth black room with a colored light bulb to see what it would look like...

man i feel silly for not finishing this one...I coulda been first ;) ah well. posting is way to much fun anyways. lol

avelorn: that green is wicked. I\'m in love with it, nice job.

re: the balck room . . .yeah, I was wondering when those would start coming out. I had an idea for one in my head, but it\'s so far down the list. . . :p

i\'m working on a reaper ronin my girlfriend gave me for my birthday last year, trying to do it nicer than I might for just another samurai to add to my ranks, since she gave it to me.

I\'m torn on the sleevless over-gi. . . originally I had in mind black, but with black hair, I think it might be too large of an area, and to have black overlapping black. eh. . .i\'m not sure.

on the otherhand, there is a fair amount of color going on already, so I don\'t want to over do it. I was thinking a pale blue perhaps, to add color but without getting garish. . .but again, such a similar hue to the grey-blue highlighting in the black hair.

also considered going the otherway, complete white linen. . . hmmm.

any opinions would be welcome. :)

Great work Avelorn! Is she supposed to look like your GF? Just wondering what inspired the freckles.

@Blackfly - I\'d avoid making the jacket black, for one thing it wouldn\'t match the rest of his outfit. And yes it would look odd with the black hair. I really like the colours on the gi, they\'re very \"warm\".
