Worried about a friend... WARNING: DEPRESSING

I\'ve just spent the last...
2-3 hours trying to convince a friend of mine not to overdose on co-codamol and vodka.

Now - I won\'t get into the specifics, but suffice it to say that I only have an email and a mobile number for them ; I don\'t have an address since they moved...

They SAID they were going to get themselves an ambulance before they went offline, but I can\'t be sure.

They won\'t pick up any phone calls.

I was wondering if anyone had any ideas about how to just check on them - I already tried calling the police in their area, but they wouldn\'t answer to them either and the address they had was the old one.

I\'m worried.
Of course, if I hear any news tomorrow morning I\'ll let you all know.

Sorry to bring anyone down.

How sure are you that the person might do it. People in these situations need just what you\'ve given them something positvie to hold on to.

Have thought of all th people who might now the person\'s address.

I hope everything works out for you not a nice situation to be keep trying them and try and keep positive :)

There must be an address site where you can search for this person and their address. I honestly don\'t know how to help you though, I hope your friend is fine and doesn\'t do anything irrational. :(

Might call the internet service provider or cell phone company and explain that it\'s an emergency and they can send the address to the police.

I am assuming you have a cell phone number. They should be able to provide the police with a current address, since he should be paying a bill.

I had a similar experience a few years ago, and though the guy was pissed with me when the county sheriff rolled up to his door, a few weeks later he called me a thanked me, because he had met \"the girl of his dreams\". They are now married an expecting their second child. Sometimes we have to anger those we care about because they think no one does care.

Most cell phones now days operate off of GPS they should be able to trace a phones location if its on and receiving a signal.

I guess it all depends on serious the police wish t take it.

I have been in a similar situation about a year ago but it was with an elderly lady I was worried about who wasnt answering her phone.
The police were not very helpful as they were busy so I had to pretty much let them know that if anything happened to her as a result of them not being bothered it would be taken further and a complaint lodged. I let them know that I would inform the family of what happened should they wish to persue compensation. I didn\'t like that it had to resort to that but it worked.
With your friend the cops should be able to get a new address by following up their mobile number billing info.

As frustrating and upsetting as it may be there really is not much you personally can do to find them due to privacy acts. Sounds like you have done what you can.
If you know the general area they live in you could try the hospitals around the place to see if the reason they are not answering the phone is because they have been admitted.

Good Luck.
Lets us know if it turned out alright.

Calling the hospitals in the area is a good idea as your friend did say he was going to call an ambulance. I hope when you find out, it\'s good news.

As most of the people above have said - been in similar situations. Hope everything turns out well.

Usually if you have a clue and they talk about it , it\'s a cry for help. I had a couple freinds seemingly be dandy, wake up one day and decide not to be around anymore.

I\'m pretty sure your friend is ok. I honestly hope they\'re ok.

Everything about tracking has been said before. hope it works out for the best .

yeah my mate\'s housemate was found burnt out in his car in the local wholesaler\'s carpark. they had to use dental records to find out that it was him.

hopefully it\'s a call for help and things can get sorted. keep us posted

Well, she\'s ok.
Thanks everyone - seems she DID call herself that ambulance, and she\'s just stuck with the mutha of all hangovers.

I think it more a cry for help, but thanks everyone anyway.

I\'m glad it all turned out well. I wanted to post something last night but I didn\'t have anything to add that would have helped. Are YOU ok? That can be really hard on a person.

That\'s really good to hear Dan :)

Make time for her, she could use a good mate like you right now. I really doubt you need me to tell you that though.
Hope all the best for the future man.

YAY everything is ok!

I\'m glad to hear that. This is always a difficult situation to be in. I\'ve even had a student call in to tell me he was suicidal and was thinking about taking his life. Never fun to deal with and always very sad when people are that down.

I always try to be happy and optimistic. Every day I\'m above ground is a fantabulous day!
