You guys realize that 300 was the adaptation of the graphic novel right? Considering that . . . look at it from the artistic point of view. The way they filmed the movie and the look of it was edgy and brilliant. It basically is the graphic novel come to life. Which was their goal and considering that it was very well done.
Aye, I\'m aware it\'s based on Miller\'s 300 and was intended to be an adaptation. The problem for me is that it\'s not actually an attempted adaptation, it\'s an attempted complete copy, and that doesn\'t necessarily make for a good movie.
Zack Snyder has horribly overworked each and every visual so that while it features the same sort of blocking and layout as the comic, it just looks like a heavily polished music video or at its worst a commercial for blood brought to you by the same team that advertises Loreal. By aproaching it so clinically he\'s ripped out any of the grit evident in the artwork.
I see very little artistic merit in simply trying to copy something, so can\'t admire it for this.
Oh, and the old \'slow down/speed up trick can only maintain my attention for so long as a battle booster before it becomes tiresome.
Have y\'all ever seen the original 300 Spartans? If not, go see it. Then you may appreciate the remake based on the graphic novel a bit more.
I haven\'t seen it, but I don\'t see why any film, no matter how bad it may be, would make me appreciate a film I already consider to be pretty awful.
I enjoyed it from the artistic and historical point of view. The Battle of Thermopylae is one of my favorite battles in history. Reading the Greek historian, Herodtus\'s account of the battle just amazes me. I thought it was very cool to see it come to life on the big screen in a dramatic way.
I find it strange you pick out the historical aspect as something to enjoy, considering the extreme levels of fantasy throughout the movie, but yes, I suppose it is inspired by historical events.
As for drama. For me to find something to be dramatic requires at least one character developed to a point where I can care about them. As 300 just featured caricatures with well defined abs it was about as undramatic a film as I\'ve seen.
