Wedding Cake Top - FINAL

Hi All, Well, I finally got around to taking proper photographs of the Wedding Cake Topper I did for my Wedding on April 8, 2004. Basically, we were looking for something unusual and distinctive for the cake top. My lovely (fiancée) wife suggested that it should be something done by me, if I could finish it in time. :) After a great deal of thought, I came up with the idea of doing the Red Lioness in variations of whites and light blues with a Knight of Alahan in golds and reds. I chose these minis for a couple of reasons; firstly because they are absolutely beautiful sculpts and secondly because my Coat of Arms has a gold lion on it, so very appropriate. Also, I wanted the figures of the Bride and Groom to be suitable regal and heroic without being to fantasy hack and slash, these fit very well. Particularly since the whole wedding was a formal black tie affair. From a story point of view, the Bride and Groom would be standing on a snowy river bank about to cross to a spring like bank, thus entering their new lives together, a time of blossoming and happiness. A couple interesting points: The white armour was blended from Vallejo Sombre Grey through GW Space Wolf Grey to white, with a heavy dose of Vallejo Metal Medium, which gives it a very distinctive opalescence and richness. I carried the white armour over to the knight along with touched of blue to visually tie them together. I used Woodland Scenics’ Realistic Water for the river/steam the night before the wedding, before going for Sushi with my to-be Father-in-Law and the rest of the boys. I had to pour it all in and just hope it dried by the time it went on the cake. It at least had a hard layer by that time, but it still was flowing a little. No mishaps but scary, can you imagine the blue gunk flowing over the cake, yeah nice. lol The cake was supposed to be square, but even with drawings the baker still messed it upon and on the day it arrived “round”, very annoying, but not that big a deal. It’s not a wedding unless something goes wrong. 8) See the “Detailed View” post for a view of the round cake with square topper. Also, the base was redone after the wedding because as you can imagine I was really rushing to finish at the end and it was the one thing that did not turn out as well as I hoped. In these pictures your see the stone on the front, that was added when we gone back from our Honeymoon in Paris, France. It was taken from the grounds around the Tomb of Napoleon at Les Invalides. So adding a touch of the happy events following the Wedding, in a way the mini then is part of the months leading up to the wedding, was present at the wedding and was part of the honeymoon. In the end I spend nearing 300 hours on this, each piece was done in exhaustive detail, with maximum effort and maximum care. It was truly a labour of love for me and is now displayed under glass in our living room. Thanks for looking. ;) To see a “Detailed View” click HERE ID #100603 Too see the “Work in Progress” shots all taken and posted as I finished each piece: White Lionesses' horse click here ID #49441 White Lionesses herself click here ID #50263 Knight of Alahan's horse click here ID #51227 Knight of Alahan himself click here ID #51334 White Lionesses Final image click here ID #51365 Knight of Alahan Final image click here ID #51366 Bride and Groom Together image click here ID #51367 Cheers, Darkblade [AAvH-Darkblade]
