Arturion, Chaplain of the Black Templars

This mini was built and painted as a christmas gift for a friend who recently started collecting Templars. The whole thing took 38 hours of painting, and probably another 10 hours or so of working with the plastics before that. Cape is greenstuffed, and the eye sockets also needed some greening, due to the Chaos Biker helmet eyes being pointy psychotic type things. It's built mostly from the bits you get in a black templars tac squad, with the exception of the hammer, which is 2 kroot rifle grips and the head from a WHFB chaos warrior hammer. It was an exercise in pretty much everything, and I learnt a lot from it all, so I'm pleased with how he turned out, and what I came away from the experience with.

I think this is a very striking figure with excellent painting. As always, the black armor is done nice and crisply with a good balance between highlights and main color. The attention to detail, esp. with the freehand script across the figure is great. What lets it down for me is kinda the vividness of the color choice - everything kinda competes for attention, whether it's the jet black armor, the cream robes and helmet, the vivid red details and accents, and the bright electric blue power hammer head. I think if some of the reds had been approached a bit more subtly and darkly, and one or two areas were emphasised with the rest played down a bit, this would've been a much stronger figure appearance-wise.
