Harbinger of the Moon
This was one of my entries to Wyrd Miniature's Rotten Harvest contest. These are not the photos I submitted to the contest, I've been experimenting with a few things photographically, and these are closer to what the figure really looks like. (You can see the original pictures here.) The figure is Harbinger Magazine's Harbinger of the Moon. The cat and firepit were painted with standard painting techniques. The hag and her cook pot were painted using the underpainting technique. I was fortunate enough to take a class with Eric Louchard at GenCon2005 on this painting style, and this figure is my first attempt at the technique. The result is a little grainy in places. I think this is a consequence of the zenithal prime, and not smoothing out that undersurface quite enough, although I did work 3+ hours on that before starting in with the coloured glazes. I used Adikolor paints for this figure, I think their properties are well-suited to this kind of technique. Adikolor Umber is part of the mix for almost all the colours on the mini, partly because it was a nice organic colour that fit the look I was going for, and partly as an attempt to tie everything together. I enjoyed trying a new technique, and there are parts of this I'm quite happy with, but overall I think it lacks oomph.
