Dena Honours Her Creator

I was very saddened to hear about the death of Dennis Mize. His sculpting style isn't to everyone's taste, but I have always been drawn to his sculpts, and was enjoying how he seemed to be challenging his style lately, not to mention the wonderful stuff he had been doing for Darksword Miniatures. I wanted to paint a little tribute piece, and this is what I came up with. I'm pretty happy with the steel NMM on this. While I still have to work on the placement location of light and shadow areas, I learned a lot about techniques for paint application on this one. One of the things I most like about Dennis sculpts is often the hair, and I think I just about did it justice on this one. I really tried to get a lot of emotion in her face. The bush is Woodland Scenics fine-leaf foliage, with a bit of extra flock and then individual dried flowers glued on, and little pieces from the same dried flower stalks glued underneath to make dropped petals. The flowers on the grave are also real dried flowers, with a different type of dried flower to make the leaves. I did some green washes over the 'leaves'. All of these dried flowers were purchased at Michaels hobby store. I used Lazlo's granite technique for the gravestone. Although this isn't exactly a huge diorama, I had some problem trying to get it down to CMON posting size without a lot of image degredation or uselessly small images, so I've posted a second picture with a few different views.

I'm sure he's smiling over this one in the Happy Sculpting Grounds.
