Margara Firetongue
Margara Firetongue: Another Reaper sculpt by Werner Klocke, who’s work I really like. He’s got a tremendous talent for sculpting faces which give a painter something really pleasurable to work with. Margara has a typically intense structure to her face which allowed me to emphasise the eyes and the brow line, ensuring that she looked like a Female Dwarf just about ready to deal out some grief. I drilled out the tankard somewhat in order to give it a more realistic depth instead of a shallow indent. Boy did that take some doing, A good hour of Hand drilling (I wasn’t going to risk using the Dremel), but in the end worth it. She was painted up with specific aims; to look as if she’s wearing a Smiths Apron, and also to look as if she’s a Cleric of some kind. Hence the brighter clothing layers below the apron. I took the cleric idea from the fact that she’s holding a Hammer in one hand and a Chisel in the other. So to me she looks ready to invoke some kind of Rune. She, like the Snorri Oathbreaker figure, is mounted on a Groundforge Base and she was completed to be entered into the Salute 2006 Painting Competition. She didn’t get anywhere but then I was up against and beaten soundly by Mrika. However I did get to show her to Werner himself and he did make appreciative noises, (or he was just being polite).
