LOTR Boromir with Horn

my first posting here at CMON ... so please be gentle ... :-). but I am happy to know my mini surrounded by superb figures i had been admiring at several visits to this site. I came across the hobby one year ago in a toy shop and got somewhat caught by it. With painting mostly LOTR minis I try to stick to film appearance, costumes/equipment as shown at costume exhibitions/sites and according to Tolkien's descriptions. The base is a rock i found at an ugly highways parking place...

hello, this is a nice miniature, especially considering that you are so new to the hobby. I share your passion for lord of the rings, and when painting minis I also try to be as true as possible to the film appearance by looking at sites, exhibits etc haha. I think you have done a good job here on the face especially, it has good life and expression. I have a few suggestions for some improvement though: first, you could try to give some more shading to the metallic parts such as the sword blade, buckles etc. using some dilute black paint in several thin passes to build up the shadows in the cracks, joins, under-surfaces which would be in shadows, and so on. This will give the metal surfaces better definition, and provide more realism also. Second, you could think about adding some dirt stains and weathering around the bottom edges of his leather coat - in the movies you can see that they are all usually quite dirt from their travels, especially aragorn haha. Once again, very impressive painting for someone who has been painting for such a short time - I think you will improve very quickly thanks to your enthusiasm for lord of the rings! -sebastian
