Farseer Conversion 2005 Gamesday Finalist

This quite an old figure now, in that she was heavily converted and painted in 2005 for Gamesday as my 40K single mini entry. She’s a Liliath Hesperax figure seriously modified with the exclusion of the Shoulder-piece blades and the removal of the raised arm blades. The Trident staff weapon had the head cut off. Having painted the original figure before I know just how tenuous the connection between the knee and the bent leg is, therefore I carefully pinned this joint and the staff arm. I was attempting to make a full Farseer helmet, but alas my sculpting wasn’t up to my intent. Hence I left the eyes visible. All the robes are sculpted on with Green stuff, which was rolled out very thinly and then carefully shaped to form the folds of drapery. The hair was also seriously modified in that a lot of the original was cut back and more suitable was sculpted on. The gaping gap where the shoulder blades should have been attached was filled in with Green stuff and the layers worked on over a couple of days. Adding the robes took the best part of 6 days as I had to work on a section at a time. As you can see the robes are somewhat thin and YES I did tear a number of them when I was making the folds. However I deliberately mixed up a serious amount of green stuff for just such an occurrence (Planning ahead wow!). The staff was altered by the addition of a crystal from an Epic Fire Prism drilled and pinned, with a glass bead used to form the round piece immediately behind the prism section. Keen eyes will notice a triangular addition to the prism; this is due to a slip of the knife while attempting to remove some flash. (D’oh). Painting her was quite easy in comparison to the sculpting and I managed to complete the initial painting in 3 days. However I caught the prism tip of the staff and ended up having to remove it, strip part of it with Acetone, reattach and then repaint it. Originally she was on a staged display base of cork tile, but this looked terrible, and in the end I redid a much smaller base without the staging. Although not within my original intent it looked better. Things I’m pleased with on this, the robes, especially the folding of the loincloth over the Leg Armour. I’m very pleased to say she gained me another Finalist certificate, adding to my collection. Tip No 1: Use a tiny amount of Vaseline on your work surface when rolling out green stuff, it gives a very smooth surface for the putty and allows you to get a thinner roll. Tip No 2: Rub a tiny amount of Vaseline on your hands; it stops the Green stuff from sticking. Tip No 3: Use a fresh blade when you want to cut thin shapes of green stuff, it stops it tearing. Tip No 4: Work in small amounts and single areas; also work from the inside of the model to the outside. (ie Skin to top layer of clothing) It’ll save you stress & swearing.

I like it! It's a fun piece to look at. I like the overall look of it and I feel it was well executed. The sculpting really brings this bad boy to life. Great art work! Keep it going. Stay Frosty.

7.5 Dragonsreach. I really admire many of your jobs and find them to be quite amazing. although I feel this lacks some compared to your other work. Being that it is two years old I also take that into consideration. I feel the body and weapon are done excellently but the face and hair are in need of work. A good effort all around. By the way I.m the teacher from indiana U.S. who contacted you last septemeber. kuddos.
