Azrael and Helmet Bearer

Hi, first post here and the first mini I've painted since I was a kid. I doodled around with painting miniatures back then like most gaming kids I guess, but never got into it seriously and moved away from the whole thing as videogames took over. 16 years later here I am with a revitalized interest in tabletop gaming and miniatures, and I'm very keen to learn and improve. I wanted to paint something with lots of detailed bits but I think I probably bit off more than I could chew here! I tried little bits of things like NMM rather than using metallic paints, and I attempted some lightsourcing but all these things are new to me and I know they didn't come out too great. Really with this one I ended up just focusing on putting the colours in the right places as far as I could. I had a lot of trouble with the face and it's a little ruined by having a few too many layers painted over and over as I tried to get the thing right. Also, apologies for the photo not being incredibly sharp, I'm still sporting a 2MP camera (never had need to upgrade it until now).

Welcome back into the hobby... not a lot of critique to add that you haven't already mentioned yourself.. You have the right idea concentrate on getting the colours in the right place. After that then you can start playing with the effects. The Black sword has come out really well I like that a lot. As you say some of the other areas look a little lumpy. make sure your paints are nice and thin and apply in gradual layers.. I'm sure there will be some good progress in your work enjoy it firstly develop it secondly.. good luck.

Being the first mini you have tried to paint with skill, I have to say i am impressed. Honestly my first was bad ( i still have it) and i can say it didn't look so good either. But your effort here is impressive for a first time model (at least to me). The base needs the most work of the whole ordeal. Keep at it, I'm sure you will improve.
