Gandalf the White

Another gift mini, this one for a friend. I'm pleasantly surprised to find that I don't suck at painting white horses, as for other colours... we'll see :) I painted his cloak and clothes a slightly different shade of white than Shadowfax (more yellow) but it doesn't really show up in the photo. I have to say that while I generally like this and the mounted Arwen mini I painted, the sculpts seem... rough. There were a lot of "undefined" areas, and thick bits of extra material where there shouldn't be, like between his feet and the horse's belly. Also, the base attachment is by only one rear foot, which isn't enough to support a mini this heavy (I added rocks under his front foot). At least the multiple parts of the casting fit together without more than a few dabs of putty, and almost no cutting/filing.

It's a realy great mini. I think the movie horse is not better. Go on like this and show me more horses painted like this one... ;-)

A hard mini to paint, but you did a great job!

You've done a great job. The pic may not show the subtle differences in colors, but the shading makes it easy to tell cloak from robe and horse from rider.
