By all means don't be encouraged, thin out your paints, and work on getting that nice, neat colour. Trust me, it isn't always as easy as it sounds, a guy at GW Northlands has tournament quality Space Wolves where he needs 13 coats of yellow just for the basecoat (a little over the top, he really needs to try layering). The point is, don't try and get your colour straight up, build it up and work towards it. Remember to clean up to mould lines as it does draw attention and becomes a real pain in the a*** when you do washes because they show up even more. Other than that, your colour that you've picked is quite nice, so keep it up. Also, you appear to have a neat painting technique, the rest is just practice and experiment. Just remember, don't be discouraged, and don't rush. My best model is one of my space hulk terminators which took me a couple of days to paint. Keep at it, and you'll get better
i've seen about a half dozen of your pics here so far... and so i thought you'd like some comments/tips.
~clean off mould lines before painting.
~thinner paints will stop the blotchyness.
~try painting each area with two colours... a darker one, then tyhe main colour you are currently using.
~try using a chestnut ink on the golds, and a green ink on the greens to provide batter definition.
