Minotaur of the Maze

You're looking at my third attempt at painting a mini. This is the Minotaur of the Maze, REAPER Warlord # 14007. I must apologize for the poor pics. I'm still trying to find a decent digital camera (with a macro feature) that is within my price range. As far as the mini is concerened: I was going for an "almost red" brown on the flesh to give him a more menacing/evil look, and I think it turned out very well. For this I used Citadel's Blood Red mixed with Reaper's Woodland Brown and Dragon Black. Then I just lightened it a little for each layer. Unfortunately he comes across looking more purple in the pics, which is not the case in RL. The eyes are hard to see in the pics, but they're Blood Red, w/ a 'glowing' white iris. That combined with the reddish flesh are intended to give him a somewhat demonic appearance. Minotaurs are, afterall, flesh eaters (or so I'm told). The horns were fun to do. I started with Reaper's Dragon White mixed with a little Ruddy Flesh. Then I just darkened it a little for each layer as I moved inward using Woodland Brown and Dragon Black. Again, the pictures don't show it well, but they do look quite realistic in person. His armor and axe were an experimental mix intended to look like black steel. I used a mixture of Reaper's True Silver and Dragon Black. For the red spikes that dot his weapon and armor I used Citadel's Blood Red mixed with Reaper's Bright Gold and a dab of Dragon Black to darken it a bit. After painting the armor and axe they were washed with a mixture of Reaper's Black Ink Wash and Dragon Black to give them a tarnished look. Again, that isn't showing up in the pics as well as I'd hoped. Sorry. I had a lot of fun doing this model, especially with the base. I painted it to resemble a dungeon floor or stone walkway, and then accented it with some static grass growing up through the cracks. To finish it all off he's been coated with multiple layers of Testor's Dull Coat for both protection, and a matte finish. This is one of REAPER's better Warloard sculpts, IMHO. I thought the broken urn, the dagger, and the spilled bag of coins added a little extra character that you don't always see on a lot of these mass produced pieces. Alltogether I spent about 6 hours working on this mini. Comments are appreciated! Thanks, and Happy Painting!
