Firefox (My Hero)
Firefox and Captain Griffon were painted up for Wyrd Games' Iron Painter contest. Each round painters are given a theme and two weeks time to bring it to life. The theme in this round was 'My Hero'. In my vision for this scene, I was trying to make it a little ambiguous whether Firefox is the villain, or rescuing poor Captain Griffon from his captor. In my head, the scenery was meant to look like an underground cement lair or something like that, with newspaper clippings and blueprints on the wall. I don't really feel that I achieved this, which annoys me a little as it took me ages to make the stairs from styrene! ;) I do think the newspaper turned out pretty well. I found a site that let you make custom tabloid front pages and inserted the B&W catalogue picture of the figure, as well as a custom headline and printed it out on regular printer paper. I wrapped that around a core of tissue paper pages, securing it with white glue. I fitted the paper over the stairs while it was moist from the glue so it dried in that shape. I kept the figures separate from the base so they could be used by Reaper Miniatures as display models. In my attempts to repose Firefox, I cracked her weight-bearing ankle. I thought I had repaired this during prep, but the crack reappeared when I was doing some touch-ups on the figure, so she's stayed in my case as she's not sturdy enough to travel.
