Cloak and Dagger
I painted this as part of Wyrd Games' Iron Painter contest. Each round painters are given a theme and two weeks to present a scene that depicts it. The theme for this round was 'Cloak and Dagger'. I envisioned the man with the scroll as a nobleman persuaded by the lady in red to pass her secrets of state. He has not been as sneaky as he thinks, and the assassin behind the pillar has a sad duty before him to protect the nation. The colour scheme was inspired by the paints of Hans Holbein the Younger, painter of several people in the court of King Henry VIII. That is one of my favourite historical periods, and I loved the rich colours in the painting. Unfortunately some of the paints I used to evoke those colours did not want to work with me! Both of the male figures are from Reaper. I added the scroll with GS. The female is a 7th Sea character. They did a number of quasi-historical figures I really like and hope to get around to painting some day. The pillar is a Wilton cake pillar. This was pretty ambitious for me to accomplish in two weeks, as I'm a pretty slow painter. I would like to come back to this some time and repaint the pillar, touch up the figures, and maybe add a few details.
