Vahallan Lieutenant

This miniature lived, untouched, in my attic for about 13 years and it's the first 40K metal I've painted in about that long (to clarify, I haven't touched a miniature at all for nearly that long, having only just returned to the hobby). It made me realise how much I preferred metal to plastics - less extraneous junk on the model giving the illusion of detail, more idiosyncratic scaling, generally more 'character'. I know there's probably some that I'm alienating with that statement, and I remember the fourteen year old me being very excited when the first multi-part plastic kits came out, but there it is. A challenging consequence of the fact it's a metal mini seemed to be there was a lot more blank surface area to cover, and this actually exposed my (flawed) skills much, much more than a plastic kit with loads of different knobbly bits vying for the viewer's attention. Compare it to my Empire general ( http://www.coolminiornot.com/pics/pics16/img4f461851c6a00.jpg )and you may note that that mini has a much higher average score, despite the fact that this mini has (in my opinion, and in-the-flesh comments from others) arguable more sound painting fundamentals, I also think I've not really helped myself with pic quality with this mini (lighting was all over the place, for one thing). Anyway, constructive comments welcome folks.
