Empire Tavern

This my attempt at terrain making. The base of the house is made out of a Hirst Arts mold. The rest is entirely scratch built. I used black foam core, various lengths of balsa strips, coffee stirrers and thin cardstock for the individual shingles. I carved the door/sign out of balsa and made the hardware out of thin strips of plastic from a For Sale sign. I added the rivets/bolts from a cut Evergreen styrene rod. The handle/horse ring is made from hoops for jewelry. The ground work is GW static grass, ballast and flock. I made the pine trees from cut green rope strands twisted between wire using a drill and then cut to shape. The framing, shingles and stonework were painted by brush; the individual house panels were painted using my airbrush. My favorite part is the chimney, it has a crumbly, defying gravity, fantasy feel to it. Overall, this was a very relaxing and fun project to do.

This looks great, you did a really nice job. You have good, complicated roof lines, the roof tiles being painted individually works really well. The base is well done too, little details like th e hitching post sell it. Good work.

Fantastic. A tiny bit of weathering and grime (perhaps a bit of moss growing along the stonework?) would add a bit of age to it... as it is, it looks almost Disney Fairy-tale clean, rather than something in the dark woods of the Empire. But that's a very minor nitpick... fantastic work, and brilliant execution!
