CCIV: Arilynn, Water Sorceress (and familiar)

This was my entry to Chick Challenge IV. I had a few goals and some experiments with this one, and I think it's my best mini to date. The idea for the base was my inspiration for the mini as a whole. I had an idea about how to make mosaic 'tiles' that I was testing here. I was thinking about writing an article on this, after I try out an alternate and potentially simpler method. The octopus design is based on a Roman mosiac, without the googly eyes. I agonized over the colour selections for this. I did up test colour swatches and then a test mini, most of which didn't seem to be working out as I thought it would. On the whole I'm happy with the result, I think it has a nice tropical feel, but I'd love to hear what others think of the colour scheme. I tried to be much bolder with highlights than I have in the past, going so far as white edging in a lot of places. This is my first attempt at NMM, I don't think it turned out too badly. The pink parts are intended to be coral or another opaque type precious stone rather than a transparent gem, as in Chrispy's article. I mixed a smidge of opalescent paint into the highlight mixes for the fishscale pattern on her dress, and I think it turned out pretty well.

Lovely miniature. I really like the addiction of the familiar. I'm not to fond of the base though.. looks off in my opinion, like a plastic thingy. It distracts from an otherwise cool mini. Maybe if the lower lying lines and sides weer a dark colour instead of the broken white..

Looks like you did use blacklining on this one as well as darker shades. And it's loads better than your earlier works. You really did a huge step with ths one. The only thing I don't like (and i'm going against the masses it seems) is the base. It looks weird, like plastic. Or a piece of soap or chocolate. Just not right.

Love it. Love it. Love it! Great color scheme and the tedious mosaic base was well worth the effort! Faye
