Coyote is right - "natural" bases not always match painted minis. I think painting the sand would help. And the red details on the armour aren't too neat...
I hate to burst your bubble, but the base would look better painted.
The picture is dark, but your highlights look weak, and in some cases thick. The red on the skulls looks splotchy.
