Kelt Fianna SE

A Kelt Fianna Mail Order mini from Rackham’s Confrontation game. This is my first completely painted Confrontation Mini. The first of what I hope will be a fully painted Kelt Sessairs army. I painted her for a local Painting Competition (The Comicshop’s Masterclass Painting Competition Dec. 20, 2003), voting is not over yet so I can't tell you how I did. :) But I have to say I'm really happy with how she turned out. The filigree was a huge pain to do and took hours of careful painting, I had to keep taking breaks as my hands would begin to shake from too much concentration. The most interesting thing I tried out was using Metal Medium. The blue armour was done in 8 layers from Regal Blue through Ultramarine blue to enchanted blue with a touch of white. I added Vallejo Metal medium through out the process, which gave the Blue Armour a really nice opalescence, the idea being that the armour was enameled with blue pigments mixed with crushed abalone shell. From what I understand, the ancient Celtic peoples were known for their Gold & Silver work and their enamels. She is just a beautifully sculpted miniature and was a real pleasure to paint, even though I don't look forward to painting anymore filigree. lol Cheers, Darkblade [AAvH-Darkblade]

A lovely sculpt and a fantastic paint job!! Where to begin??...... The skin tones and blending is excellent and it's your choice of colour for her face makeup that really pushes this into the pro level. Your execution is flawless and makes all the time and effort you put in well worth while. Overall choice of palette is well made..and the blue and white go very well together. The golden filigree work is splendid ..the shading coming through is great ...very good indeed. The base work really finishes off the piece nicely ...I particularly like the sculpted rock outcrop and nice little skull addition (not usually my favourite though). Only one point deduction ..thats for the too silver sword blade ..and her hair...which could use a few more washes (no pun intended) to bring out those highlights. OVERALL ------BRILLIANT WORK!!----thanks for sharing it with us all ...a great inspiration!

I hate to admit it, but this actually looks pretty good, for a Fianna... The colours turned out vibrant and sensuous, and the iridescent armour is an interesting touch.
