Valhalla

Okay last piece in the series. Three pieces telling their own stories but also one together. The diorama “Fate” showing a depiction of the fates as depicted in the Voluspa. Large figure “Valkyrie” depicting a Valkyrie descending to choose the worthy warriors who died in battle. And the bust “Valhalla” showing a young shield maiden being sent to Valhalla on her funeral pyre boat. But there is a common thread in all 3. The shield. The shield in fate with a skeleton at the base of Yggdrasil represents someone who died without honor. Then we see the Valkyrie claiming someone with the same shield symbol, a worthy descendent. In Valhalla the shield is repeated. Perhaps she is the descendent of the dishonored figure in Fate, redeeming her family’s honor. I’ve broken the three pieces up for display on PnP much like they were at CB but also a group photo of the full display. In the bust Valhalla we have our fallen sheildmaiden. She has been placed in her funeral pyre boat and sent off. Around her are an assortment of items like apples, containers, her weapons and broken shield, and a doll. Perhaps the doll is from her childhood. Perhaps it’s a gift from her daughter. The frame contains a reference back to Yggdrasil and the raven to the Valkyrie. The arrangement of these items also creates a diagonal line across her face to lend a sense of movement to the piece. A small tribute scroll to my grandfather rest under her right elbow. I hope you enjoy the piece. You can see more of my work on Instagram under chris_suhre_miniature_art
