Lorielle Silverrain

I started this around the holidays, so decided to make her a ‘Christmas’ elf, including colour scheme and sculpted mistletoe plant. The reddish armour was an area of difficulty for me. I wanted red but not too red, so I started with a red-brown base, then highlighted up with true red, orange and finally a bit of yellow mixed into the orange. I didn’t really see much effect until I hit the yellow-orange, and then it was too much, also looked a bit grainy. And not as red overall as I’d wanted. Several red paint and ink glazes later, I think it looks okay. For the base, I wanted to try to capture that light type of snowfall with big sparkly flakes that just softly dusts everything. I’m pretty happy with the way that turned out. I used a snow paste product called Alene’s True Snow. I used a pretty small brush (mostly cause it was beat-up and also had tough bristles), lightly rolled it in the True Snow, then gently dabbed it on.

Your other picture is SOO much better! It really show alot more detail than what this picture does. Great job!

This is one of my least favorite sculpts, but you've done a great job of making her look nice anyway! I think the level of highlighting on the dress, for example the bodice vs. the skirt, is a little uneven on the model. I think that, even considering a light source from directly above, the flaring, lowest edges of the robe should be as brightly highlighted as the bodice. I feel that the brown/red is a little too subdued/brown for me to get the idea that she's a christmas elf--I wouldn't have made the connection if you hadn't told me! Also, lovely blond hair and nice eyeshadow!

She's looks pretty good actually, except her eyes seem to be looking in two different directions. But, hey, you never know. Maybe elves are like chameleons and they can do that ;) But nice overall.
