Lorielle Silverrain

I started this around the holidays, so decided to make her a ‘Christmas’ elf, including colour scheme and sculpted mistletoe plant. The reddish armour was an area of difficulty for me. I wanted red but not too red, so I started with a red-brown base, then highlighted up with true red, orange and finally a bit of yellow mixed into the orange. I didn’t really see much effect until I hit the yellow-orange, and then it was too much, also looked a bit grainy. And not as red overall as I’d wanted. Several red paint and ink glazes later, I think it looks okay. For the base, I wanted to try to capture that light type of snowfall with big sparkly flakes that just softly dusts everything. I’m pretty happy with the way that turned out. I used a snow paste product called Alene’s True Snow. I used a pretty small brush (mostly cause it was beat-up and also had tough bristles), lightly rolled it in the True Snow, then gently dabbed it on. (This is a repost. I realized that I had been putting my light source too close and overexposing my images.)

ver good blends and fleshtones...but I hate to tell you that is not mistletoe. Her face is almost there. the eyes are not quite right (pupils not quite big enough?) Maybe some eyebrows? Better than a 7.0 so I am voting an 8.

Oh yes! You can teach me a few things about photography as well. Love the the shading/highlighting and depth you've accomplished with this piece! The only thing I might add, would be a little darker(3'd shading) of red/brown? to the gold bits. Very nice figure! I ant to thank you as well, for taking the time to leave comments on some of my work. They are indeed, most appreciated my me. Keep up the excellent progress. Sincerely, Faye

Although I'm not very fond of the sculpt itself, this is a lovely paintjob. I particularly like the face, she has such a sweet, serene expression, like she is really enjoying herself walking through the woods after the first snowfall. I also like the way you have highlighted the fabric on her skirt, it gives a nice impression of movement and makes the model look less static. Well done.
