Forgeworld Ork Bust
This is my resin Ork Bust from Forgeworld. A relatively straightforward piece to paint but I took the time to try a few different concepts. Firstly the face was painted with a mix of Dark Angels Green & Chaos Black then a very soft highlight was added using the same mix but with a higher proportion of Dark Angels Green. This was then washed over with Vallejo Smoke, a transparent paint that gave the face a colour cast somewhat similar to a reptile. (I’m referring to the photos I’ve seen of Crocodiles & Alligators). The eyes were painted in using Vallejo Dark Sand, then coloured with an overall primary coat of Scab Red, followed with the upper half of the eye being highlighted with Red Gore. The highlighting was continued with Blood Red and then Blazing Orange. The slit pupils were then painted in and the whole eyeball given a coat of Winsor & Newton Deep Red Artists ink. Once this was dry the pupils were reinforced with Chaos Black and then a second coat of Blazing Orange with another coat of Deep Red Ink applied. Once the eyes were dry I tidied up any over painting with Dark Angels Green and Chaos Black mix. I then continued the facial Highlighting with Dark Angels Green to which I kept gradually adding Snot Green. The final highlights were with Snot Green and a tiny amount of Bleached Bone added. The metal is simply Boltgun Metal with Chaos Black added, mixed with water and Winsor & Newtons Flow improver. Once this was dry the shadow areas were given a thin wash of Payne’s Grey, then all metal was washed over with Vallejo Smoke, to create a slightly rusted effect. The leather was GW’s Scorched Brown, highlighted with Vallejo Leather Brown and then Beige Brown. Over this Vallejo Smoke was washed, then re-highlighted with Beige Brown. A final couple of washes with Vallejo smoke and I was satisfied with the final effect. As always your comments are appreciated.
