RINOA HEARTILLY
RINOA HEARTILLY from Final Fantasy VIII. This is a multiple first for me: First Anime/Manga style figure, First Polythene material to paint, First Large scale figure in 20+ years She stands about 4.5 inches tall and was originally covered in silver paint. When I cleaned her and primed her, the eyes sockets lost all definition and had to be freehanded back in. (That was fun!) She’s made in a Polythene material, which has quite a flexibility to the figure, and made the painting somewhat ‘strange’. I’m not used to having the figure bend with the application of the brush. It also allows the paints to rub off quite easily. Because she’s so much larger than my usual painting projects, I wasn’t able to hold her as normal. (Glued to a large cork) So there were a number of times when I had to rework the raised areas. With her being an Anime/Manga style figure I had to work the skin tone a little bit lighter than I would normally do. I’ve stuck to the colour scheme that’s on the box; as I’ve never played the game(s) so I had to go with what was available for reference. She’s one of six characters available; Cloud Strife, Sephiroth, Vivi Ornitier, Yuna and Lulu. The last I have to do as well, as she has a very Vampire like pose seated on the ground with her dress draped over her legs with a lot of filigree work. Rinoa is painted in Vallejo colours with the occasional wash of Winsor & Newton Payne’s Grey to strengthen the blue shadows. A very different figure for me and I welcome all comments.
