Sister of Battle Cannoness
A little while ago I started this figure as an intended Birthday Present for Cerridwyn1st as she’s beginning to collect a Sisters of Battle Army. It ended up being a Very Belated Birthday present………….Very Sorry Mel! As with most of the SOB sculpts this is a very nice piece to work on and can give any painter plenty of places on which to “pull out the stops”. I deliberately went with NMM on all the gold trim to the Armour and the Iconography. The main red armour is worked up from a base coat of Vallejo Black Red, right up through as many layers as I could to get the intensity of the colour. I didn’t go for a wash with the Winsor & Newton Red ink on this figure, as I wanted to see if I could achieve the colour strength without it. I think that it worked, and in fact the only place it did get used is on the casing of the boltgun. Before I stared on the gold trim I used a very thin wash of Payne’s grey around all the icons to be painted in Gold and in all the deep recesses and shadow areas. This Blue-Black Artists acrylic makes a very good complementary colour to the Red going to a deep purple-blue over the red paint. As always, comments are most welcome.
