Inquisitor Gideon Mordant
This was my UK Golden Deamon entry for 2004. The 40K Single miniature category. Based on the Fabius Bile body, I cut and ground off all the Chaos Iconography and removed the skulls/severed heads from the rear of the coat. All the joints of the skin sections of the coat were filled with green stuff and allowed to cure before smoothing down with a Dremel and brass brush. This didn’t smooth off the coat as much as I wanted so it was a case of recovering the whole lower coat with a very thin layer of Greenstuff and very carefully smooth it out. This had to be done in several sections due to the size of the area being covered but I managed to get it smoothed out to hide the joins. Once the Greenstuff on the coat had all cured it was a case of very gently sanding it to get an even surface. As Fabius Bile himself is a “Slaphead” I decided to give him a full head of hair, not content with that I also gave him the Droopy Porn star moustache. (Wonder where I got that Idea from!) The chest piece of the coat was looking a little bare so I added two straps from Greenstuff and with the aid of a fine pencil created the buttons on the straps. I also sculpted on a sash following the suggestion from JT-Y of CMON. (Thanks Jonathon you were right!). Having removed all the Chaos details from the shoulder pads they needed something to give him that extra touch. So originally I tried to sculpt on an Imperial eagle. That was a failure, more like a ruptured Duck. So it was back to the drawing board and I came up with the old standby of Book on one shoulder and Candle on the other. The backpack is a standard Sister of Battle Backpack from which I very carefully removed the Fleur-de-Lis. Sections of plastic Micro-rod were glued across the top of the pack and trimmed to fit, then fine plasticard was shaped to a small square and then a Greenstuff Icon was sculpted on. The Weapon is a stock item from Blood Angels Commander Dante with the blood drop removed and an Inquisitor insignia sculpted on. The Staff of Pain was altered slightly to remove all the spikes from the skull and then drilled and pinned with the increase in length being two round glass beads and a cylindrical one. Greenstuff was placed across the skull to represent Iron bands. Rather than have him use the staff as a walking stick I positioned the arm as if he was warding off some Psychic attack. Painting him was done with Vallejo paints and washes and the grey hair touches are intended to slightly resemble my own. Finally he was placed in a scenic base and Inquisitor Gideon Mordant was ready. I’m pleased to say that he got me a Finalist certificate. Comments always appreciated.
