Crane Clan Courtier

This was my entry to the Samurai Showdown. This is a beautiful sculpt, which I very much enjoyed painting. I did a fair amount of shading and highlighting on the dress, adding more after the dullcote, but I'm not sure it's as evident as it should be. I was going for an aged ivory look on her hair accessory, and I'm pretty happy with that. The base was made using a rubber stamp on DAS self-hardening clay. I believe this was a suggestion from Enchantra over on the Reaper Miniature forums. I wanted her to be in a palace type setting.

Very nice. I'd have given you an eight, except for the highlights on the hair (a bit too grey...not sure what to suggest though), and the base. While it's a good idea, that knotwork pattern is distintly Celtic. It seems out of place with a Japanese figure to me.

Her face is beautiful, but the highlights on the dress don't show up in the photo at all! You were successful with the hair piece, but I think the hair itself could use some different highlight--she looks like she's graying right now. Maybe a red, or a brown, would be better?

I agree that the dress highlights look as if they have not photographed as intensly as they would appear to be in real life. Two things I would suggest Darken the inner sleeve of the figures left hand and perhaps the green is a little too plain. You might want to consider a little freehand or just edgetrimming the gown with a Yellow or gold contrast. In any case the painting is lovely and smooth, but the face...........is stunning. It looks like a younger Elizabeth Taylor. Very well done on this.
