Crane Clan Courtier - Now With Freehand

An unornamented version of this was my entry to the Samurai Showdown. While I was pretty happy with the paintjob overall, it seemed like this type of character needed a little decoration, so I screwed up my courage and tried adding some freehand. Many thanks to the folks on the forum for their feedback on that! The range of highlights and shades on the green dress is slightly more apparent in the hand. I've tried emphasizing the highlights more three times, but the basecoat almost seems to be physically repelling my attempts at this point. I was going for an aged ivory look on her hair accessory, and I'm pretty happy with that. The base was made using a rubber stamp on DAS self-hardening clay. I believe this was a suggestion from Enchantra over on the Reaper Miniature forums. I wanted her to be in a palace type setting.

I like this version a lot better than the one without freehand on it. Nice placement of the cranes. The freehand on the fan really makes it pop. Also, I'm used to seeing patterned cloth in Japanese costume, rather than solid colors with one or two icons/symbols on it.

Love the face and I think the subdued green works well on this type of model.

I agree with everything you said. The mini looks great, the face ect..but the gown looks under highlighted. Nice work and cool idea on the stamp
