Ultramarines 1st Co Stadard Bearer

This is one of my favourite models of the army, I wanted to show him as part of the Command squad he's meant to be part of, but the size of his banner meant I couldn't get close enough to do it all in a single pic. His tabard like nearly all of them is modelled in Milliput (I hadn't really "discovered" GS at the time), as is the little symbol on his shield & the bits inside his arm joints. I wanted the 1st Co to have have a really large banner, I couldn't imagine any self-respecting Terminantor carrying anything as small as the cut out n' stick GW banners, so it was kind of an excersise in getting it to be the right size without looking completely stupid on the gaming table. The text on the banner is the entirety of the Roboute Guilliman "They shall be strong of body, unsullied by doubt & self-aggrandisement.. //..so it shall be for a thousand times a thousand years, unto the very end of time and the extinction of mortal flesh" quote, just incase anyone's slightly interested, I entered it into an online Latin translator to get the text, so forgive me if the translation isn't 100% perfect. ;) As always, any thoughts you care to share, ideas for next time & crits gladly heard & is appreciated. Cheers!

it's really very very cool man, a few things...first and foremost..why ultramarines?? :D then have you thought about making another one actually using green stuff this time, you may find it easier to use than the miliput and so you may be able to get more detail into it. the paintwork is awesome but the one crit that i do have is the tabbard, personally i think it looks a bit solid and not really like a fabric. but you get bonus points for having a rediculously obnoxious, crzily huge banner :P

Really cool mini, makes for a great centrepiece of any army! for i love the style of your freehand, you should use it to enhance the armour(and tabard) of this guy a little bit....to be a bit constructive as well: while enormous banners are absolutely okay in my book, the poles do look a bit too flimsy in my eyes...another idea to try may be using a sculpted banner instead of a paper one, as you got a really convincing "folding textile" effect on the tabard! BUT: let me warn you, painting it can be a pain if you fold it too much.... all in all: a real looker! Please keep it up! Happy painting!

Totally bad ass Jim. I never saw anything like this back on Potent - you were holding out! This is truely an accomplishment! Well done! Inspiring!
