need help with artposters

I´ve recently moved into a house with my wife and child, and now I´m looking for something to hang on my (our :p) walls.

We have a chagall reproduction (one of his "love" works - done almost entirely in red)and 2 small green acidetched prints of frogs. This is nowhere near enough, so I figured I would find something online that would be nice to have framed on the wall.

I found these 3:

All done by Leslie Ragan.

Now I´m not a train freak, but I thought that they were brilliant and really oozes power, dynamics, speed, and so on - I just like the vibe they give. Also I really the art deco style of the drawings. Also I figured they would be a good contrast to the more mello stuff we allready had hanging on the walls

I showed them to my wife who promptly said : I don´t want trains in my living room - that´s silly!"

:disapointed::weep:

so now what to do - do any of you know of any art in the same vein - art deco with a powerful atmosphere who would be suitable to hang in a very.... grounded womans living room?

* bit of trivea * each poster has a mini of the previous year's poster in it somewhere - eye reflection, bead reflection, etc.

Well I think you should hang 'em anyway. They're cool enough. If you can hang 'em for a little while maybe your wife will like them? I know when my boy was born and I put my Scarface, Godfather, Evil Dead, and Fight Club posters up in his room my wife raised a stink. But Screw her, she can decorate the girls room in all that princess crap.

I say give it a shot. I like those pics a lot!

Dunno why but I think those pictures would be perfect on a white wall over a creme sofa...
Because they share mutual colors, making up a limited palette which would suggest cohesion ... I so much need to paint again :p.

Tamara de Lempicka would probably fit the bill.... definitely chick-friendly stuff too :)

Also check - Cassandre (maybe a bit too ad-poster, also did nice trains etc), Erte, Edward McKnight Kauffer (really like this guy... superb ad posters). I can't think of any other atm but there's loads of other deco artists/designers worth checking out too Clarice Cliff, Eileen Grey who are both designer but you can probably get prints.

Good period of art.

Yeah, Mucha's stylised work is Nouveau, not Deco (he painted realistically also, and very well).

You obviously don´t know my wife :p - She would cut off my man-fruits with a rusty, rabies infected razor, and then keep them in a jar on display just to make sure I woulddn´t misbehave like that again!

@ Ritual/Airhead: Thanks for the suggestions, I like both artists really (allthough kinda different), and I would hang them some other place if possible. The problme with the living room is that it atm. is in danger of becoming a bit too "quiet" - I want something with a bit more energy (maybe even machizmo) to off-set the sedated look it has right now.

To the rest: Thanks for the suggestions on sites, but I allready knew most of them (except the V&A), and have browsed a lot through them - I just got lazy :)

I have since suggested:

Looks good with the blue and red, but I don´t want planes on my walls!

It´s a plane AND ugly!
