I know I can't be the only one who doesn't have time for painting

Who else here is too busy right now to paint? Misery loves company ;)

and for those of you who still find time to paint, how on earth do you do it?

Simple: I don't sleep much.

Plus, it helps that I have pretty much everything at or near my workarea. I can watch movies or TV on my laptop which sits right here next to where I paint.

And I'm single and have no social life.

And before the stereotype image kicks in: no, I don't live with my parents; I own my house. Yes, I've kissed a girl. No, I'm not a virgin (have a daughter to prove that).

It happened to me one year ago, I stopped for two months and I restarted and now it's one of my main occupation. Now I don't have very much time for painting because I finish school at 6pm every day and I have one hour homework every day but I think it's better than adults who really work but I paint a lot during week ends (about 3 hours each day of the week end). I think I paint about 9 hours/a week.

I'm totally too busy for painting. Hectic to be honest! Which is exactly why I've just signed up for the latest Iron Painter at Wyrd....

It's the deep end

but fun :D

I don't find time to paint, but I force myself to go painting once in a while. At that moment I realize I still need to paint like a whole army for the next Grand Tournament and then I start painting again. It really works to have a deadline.

I am right with you in the single non social lack of sleep lifestyle cept I have not kissed a girl , well OK IPM but that's cause shes is my kid.
Right now with three 30" assorted widths canvas paintings due in 2 weeks I am pushing a brush but not on a mini.

I take over the living room with the painting table and supplies and have watched too much bullcrap as gray noise. My computer is my TV yet still I am down to project runway Philippines, scary huh? Can't wait to be done

School is the main reason i don't paint as much as i want to. The other is my curse not to be able to focus on the same thing longer then 30 min.:p

I just take my minis to work and paint them there. Mostly it is the minis buddies want me to paint for them so it is like getting paid to paint the mini twice. I love my job.

I seem to be in the same boat with those of you who can't paint.

school. I've got about 2 weeks before winter break where I hope to get back into the painting world. The sad thing is right before I stopped painting I had almost finished this mini that is, in my opinion, the best i'd done yet. I'm pretty sure 2 years wrapped up in a box are going to take their toll and I'm a bit nervous to unwrap her and finish the base

but the second school's over, this is my first goal.

second - find my old minis and paint the first GW thing I fall in love with.

Yeah, my typical schedule doesn't allow for a lot of painting. I'm sure a lot of married w/ kids painters are similar.

Wake up 5:30am. Breakfast, email, CMON forums.
@Work by 7am.
Off work and home @ 5pm.
Family time and dinner until the kids bed time @ 8:30pm.
Pay some bills, enter receipts into the budget, online news and CMON forums until 10pm.
Then a shower and bed, hopefully with more than 7hrs of sleep.

Weekends aren't much different as that's when we've got the shopping, activities, and some more family time.

I did manage to get one mini out in the last month, but that was by sacrificing 2-3 hours of sleep a night. Something I'd really rather not do. So, whatever time I can scratch out on the weekends is about it. That's if I can scratch anything.

I have taken the last two days off from life to do some painting (read sculpting), otherwise I'm way too busy with preparing to move to a new apartment, finishing up the last of my school work and trying to make food in the middle of everything. :D

Edit: I totally love kids but at the moment I'm extremely happy I don't have any.

Hows this for a schedule -

Rise at 0300-0330 shower, get ready for the day, get online
Walk to work 0530 - start day 0600
Work till 1830
Walk home
Online till 2000-2100 - paint and chat and catch up then

So it can be done, you just have to work it in.

<weakly raises hand> I guess I'm kinda in the same boat as Hilton
No social live. Work the second shift, and if I do get a chance to do something, it's with mostly male friends. No I'm not a virgin, but yes, I live with my parents. Hey the rent is cheap! hehe.

Back to the point, a couple of hours before work and after sleep, around say lunch, at the desk painting and hacking up plastic stuff is about the most time during the week that I get.

So, is a care packet restart/practice mini needed to be shipped there Becca?

I have a real tough time being able to paint things for myself. School is keeping me tied down pretty good, and painting commissions in all my other free time ensures that I can't ever paint anything I want to. Even lurking on forums is difficult. A couple weeks ago I was able to paint one test model for a unit of Skaven for my army. About 30 minutes and that's it. /tear....

I stopped painting a while (a good while) back because I was working 14 hours a day 5 days a week and sleeping when I wasn't working. Then I packed everything up amd moved. I don't have ANY furniture so I have no place to paint right now but I really have to get that sorted out. I ache to paint and I know Roger really wants to as well.

I am pretty much in the same boat, but my hours in the day is reversed. I work from 3pm and don't get back home till 1am--12am if I am lucky. Don't go to bed till 4am and wake up by 10am---have Breakfast and get ready to go back to downtown for the same thing---Gotta love the Restaurant Industry ;P

But with all honesty I try to put at least 1 hour of my time to paint. And Weekends for me is designated time for me to paint :D (at least 2-3 hours straight)

As the others said---try to motivate yourself in order to have a character painted or a whole unit---whether to finish up your army quickly for a tournament or just to feel proud in what you have done. I remembered finishing 24 skinks that I had on hold just to play in a 1250 pts tourni in a local GW store a few weeks back--just 48 more skinks to go 0_0 :'(

Or do what most of us do.......never be able to go to sleep ever again............for you are for ever trapped in this alternate universe we call painting XD

Hope this helps ;)
