Trampier's Catoblepas

I paint my thumb.
I think you would need to smooth out a bit of the tail youve made, or maybe add wrinkles on the original part, so there is some kinda transition, it's a bit rough as it is and might be troublesome when you get to paint him.

Yeah, I agree; that's one of the main trouble spots I was looking at. Tonight after work, I'll go over him with my Dremel, & do some filing & brushing. Hopefully, after that he'll be ready for painting. More pictures to come, & thanks for the advice!

Paint!

So, I went over it a couple times with Dremel & brushes, trying to blend the new with the old, (taking Freak's & GreenOne's advice to heart!) Also taking a page from Einion's book & trying to approach dry-brushing in a much more patient manner; liking the effect so far..

Just starting to lay in some color, trying to give the deely-boppers on the face a fleshy feel. May yet go over them with OSL red from the eyes, as Funnymouth suggested. I plan to come nack in with some darker browns & greys to create a mottled effect, kinda like a hippo, or the Predator. Thanks for all the expert tips, you guys. Please feel free to make further suggestions as I go along. More photos to come...

great start with the paint - good tone. i like how the fleshy protuberances on the face turned out once you put paint on 'em - the glue blobs were a very clever idea.

Thanks, FM, I haven't tried this before. In fact, it's the first time I've used white glue for anything but base-flocking. Time will tell if it works out great, or leaves me heartbroken somewhere down the road. The cool thing about it is how 'nurby' (to coin a phrase) it gets, rounding & smoothing automatically with it's surface tension.

I'm getting back on this in the morning before work. For now, off to bed...

I admit that I haven't really read a lot of fantasy books, so it was a bit of a surprise to me that your catoblepas has a long neck. It looks really nice though and I can't wait to see more pictures. :)

Cheers!
