Ironic really, given where they were going and the meaning behind the visit.

One of the military officials on board was a friend of my father, apparently they knew each other growing up.

Looks like they will have to elect a new one pretty sharpish.

In fact worse than their elected president being on the plane were all of the Polish top brass. Their military has been severely crippled with now having to promote men to fill the gaps.

The reports I heard were they flew into trees in fog 300M from the end of the runway, despite being diverted by atc, so this will almost certainly be put down to "Pilot error" though once the flight recorders are recovered and analysed the true story will be known

I didn't say anything about the KGB or FSB or whatever. I was actually thinking about the idea that Russia was hit by ISLAMISTS rather hard a week and a half ago, and that they might have been threatening other players in the region as well. Being in California, I don't exactly hear much news from that part of Europe, you know? Also, I wouldn't be asking if this was a civilian liner unless something there was plainly suspicious. But this wasn't a civilian flight, this was a flight of some of the most high-ranking members of the Polish government.

allow me to clarify,by shit happens i meant bad things happen to people good or bad most of the time for no reason. nothing personal intended to any of the postee's these kind of threads tend to go off track now and again and bog down in opinion and counter opinion i find its easier to remember that opinoins are like assholes, everyone has one and not to take it personally. "place the argument on the ground in front of you and step back with your hands in the air" lol

Oddly enough, I figured on accident too. When I found out that a hight ranker atache was involved I wasn't. Rationally, however, I can't think of a reason anyone would want the polish top brass out the picture in one fell swoop.
It's tragic in any sense. God find rest for 'em all.
